alright, so i think someone attempted to break into my house at 2am this morning. think my dog spooked them by barking. so nothing came of it. i did call the 5-0, and they didnt see anything.
im thinking about getting a 1911, and a "sawed off" shotgun.
what do you guys recommend for home defense, and why?

For home defense, a short barreled shotgun loaded with birdshot, or, small caliber shot at most. Main reason: Won't penetrate walls. Short barrel makes it maneuverable in tight spaces (hallways, for instance...). multi-shot capability doesn't hurt either. For 99% of folks that you have to worry about, the mere act of jacking a round into the chamber of a pump action shotgun is MORE than enough to get them looking for the nearest exit. Just make sure you are not between them, and the exit.
Ive got a few weapons for my home protection. I keep a walther p22 next to the bed and if that fails to do the job there is a Remington 870 express youth model in the closet loaded up with bird shot. Its a small gun that is very easy to maneuver. And if i cant handle the situation with those 2 my dad keeps a glock and a 9mm in his drawer next to the bed. Along with a sawed off police riot gun next to the dresser.

I live in the stix now, we don't even have to close the doors at night. Actually, a few years ago my grandmother was feeding the horse, saw a bear cub (chances are momma wasn't too far away), went back into the barn and closed the doors and waited.
My grandfather has taken different views on guns, so what did he do the following day? Sold the last shotgun he had, leaving the place completely defenseless against intruders, etc.....
He also reminded me that, this place has NEVER been locked up....
Get a mossberg 500... thats what we got and its an awesome gun. Ours has no plug and can be loaded up with 7 rounds of whatever 12 gauge ammo you want.. Looks just like this one here
