How old are you on this forum and what is your mechanical abilaty
58. Been hanging around here for just over a year.
Built lots of engines when I was in my teens and 20's. Mostly fords and chevys. Built a number of ford trannys (C4 and C6). Used to rebuild VW's (still have a 74 Super Beetle to do) and sell them for profit, expecially when I was in New Mexico.
Just started to try learn paint and body. This Ram is my first Dodge, althought I rebuilt a couple 318's in the 70's and one 440. Overhauled Ram tranny successfully. Wife thinks I have too many tools - I think I don't have enough....
Been working on cars since I was in "short britches" in the 60's "helping" my Dad. Both of my son's are gearheads as they have been under my elbow since they were little.

36 and just joined to this forum. As I gain interest on something, I look for places for lots of information. Now it was time for 5.2/5.9 engines, and this place seemed to be a good place to take closer look
I've been around motorized vehicles for over a two decades. I do all the possible work by myself from bumper to bumper, so if something goes terribly wrong I can only blame myself. But if you don't try you won't learn. Sometimes it just would be so much easier to pay for someone to do the work, but I just hate to pay from something I can do myself! I can do all kinds of custom work from metal, fiberglass, plastic etc. Only thing that keeps me doing all the things I want currently is the wife, two kids, five dogs and a house on country side. So now it's basically normal maintenance and repairs, all the custom stuff... well, when I have time

29, and I f-ing hate working on cars...just always end up working on them anyway though because I'm too cheap to hire it done..unless the job pisses me off enough, then I hire it done because I don't want to deal with it lol. been working on my own rides since before I could drive.. had to fix my first POS car just to drive it
I hate working on my truck cause its a big fat ***** that sucks my wallet dry of money and its always wanting something new and shiny. Thing is worse than a wife. Least she knows how to put a smile on my face...(the truck that is...I hear those turbos sing and there just ain't a sweeter sound than that!)
I did take auto shop in high school. but always had a natural talent to look at something and see how it works.

16. No mechanical ability, got a job, bought a cheap truck to learn on. Chevy probably would have been more practical, but I liked the 2nd gen style.
I might be looking into building a 5.2 soon. Mine has 330k miles, gets less than stellar mpg (13-14), and in my opinion isn't worth upgrading at this point.

330k on a gasser is a tired old engine...be gentle with her and drive it till it dies.
if it were a cummins, Id say upgrade away..miles aren't high on a cummins till you start pushing into the 800k-1.3M mark. then they start getting tired and a bit harder to start..(doesn't mean the rest of the truck wont fall apart on you though

I can attest to that my 98 12v with 488,562 starts and purrs like the day it was new, the body on the other hand to put it nicely is starting to flake off in places it shouldn't
