i guess it depends on how long the trip to work is. almost sounds like you might need a small cheap car to do your running around so you can enjoy driving a truck when you don't need great gas mileage. i know i pretty much use my ramcharger for doing all my hiway driving and my 81 for all the in town stuff and i can go about 3 weeks without fueling either of them up but i only put about 560miles on them in that 3 weeks.

at 500 miles a week i think you would need a car. i just don't think a cummins would get the type of mileage you would need to save much money. now if you do buy a cummins you should look for a first gen one with a overdrive transmission. then you could get about 27mpg. the ones without overdrive are also pretty good getting 20-27mpg depending on how you drive it but it is a lot easier with overdrive.

i use to do it all the time. my bike has about as much rust on it as my truck does just from all the salt they put down but i guess you could just bike to work on the warm sunny days. it could save you a bit of money.
