Ok this might be a really really dumb question and it doesnt have to do with a ram...

I tried some research and didnt find much....

Well my car has a timing belt that needs changing every 60k...i was wondering if theres any conversion kits to replace a belt with a chain on cars with belts...

I just hate having a belt for you never know when they can go...i mean every 60k? Thats rediculous in my opinion and to me is a very poor design to have a belt....i changed the chain in my truck at 200k....now thats good designing...

May be a stupid question but i thought id ask

 

Belt to chain conversion? Not that Ive seen.
Chain to belt? I have seen. (ie. Small block chevy)

 

Lol why would you change to belt from chain...theres no benefit from a belt

probably less weight, resistance, better balance, quieter, better mpg. smaller package, internal water pump pulley. etc

i agree its a pita to do, and its a VERY expensive service event if you pay someone else to do it.

 

Not as expensive as ignoring it, and having it break..... and toasting all your valves.

 

Try a timing chain tensioner,get rid of the thrust plate ,and chains will last much longer,Just a thought............

 

My car has 93k...bought it with 80k....ugh 13k in 4 months....but the dealership i bought it from said they had no record of it being changed...but they got the car at 80k....dont know if po did it....

I looked at it today and i have a two piece timing cover....so im going to attempt to check it tomorrow by removing top half of cover...only thing that sucks is motor mount has to come out...

Ive done timing chains in my nissan 4x4 truck and of course my dodge so i know how to do them...BUT those were single cams my car is a dohc...is it true i need a cam locking tool? Or just line up timing marks and go? I was told i have to lock the cams...is this true?

 

Lock cams. Failure to do so increases risk of screwing it up exponentially.

 

Is it a tool that you can typically rent from a parts store or would i have to buy one?
