Trans Rebuild Kit?
#45
Well I called PATC and ordered the MegaViper kit, plus they switched out two parts to fit my application better. Total 1060 shipped with torque converter. Really didn't want to spend that much but hopefully I won't have to deal with it again. The shop will charge me 900 for labor plus a cooler/radiator flush, plus fluids and small stuff. So he said around 1100.
What two parts did they swap out? If the shop does a good job on rebuild, that will be a good deal. Will they warranty their labor?
I used a std rebuild kit and added the red alto clutches, and upgraded to 7 clutches in direct drum as well as 6 gear planetary set. Had about $600 in parts.
Hope you get it in pretty quick. Let us know how it turns out.

from PATC-
The level 3 Mega Viper transmission comes with:
all four sets of Alto Red Eagle clutches and Kolene steels.
direct clutch PowerPack,
high capacity 5 clutch direct clutch drum,
Fairbanks TransAction Kit,
performance 3-4 accumulator spring for a firmer shift into overdrive,
high performance low / reverse servo,
performance intermediate servo cover,
Mopar 5 to 1 intermediate band apply lever (4.2 gas) giving an extra 31% torque holding capacity in second gear on diesel models,
extreme duty brass impregnated carbon fiber flex band
heavy duty intermediate band strut,
Sonnax Billet Aluminum 4 Ring Accumulator Piston,
Sonnax 16% Oversize Intermediate Servo with Cover
Power Wedge Intermediate Band Anchor.
A special manual valve allows converter fluid charge in park.
stronger Mega Spring for overdrive direct clutch apply with more holding power in reverse, 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
heavy duty / high performance torque converter can be ordered in stall speeds up to 2800 RPM for gas motors.
This transmission is good for up to 700 horse power.
The Mega Viper transmission has 14 major performance upgrades.
All of this can be yours without a trade-in for $2827.00 on gas units.
Add $334.00 for a gas single clutch billet converter.
Add $100.00 for 1996 up 4WD.
freight from free to $165.00 after freight discount in most cases.
my only question is could a transmission builder use his discount level to buy these same parts cheaper than you.
sounds like a nice trans in the making. it'll probably outlast the truck.
just to be doing, and with no point in mind, here was MonteC's parts list:
Overhaul kit
Friction kit (green high energy clutches)
Bushing kit
Steel kit
Front band
Rear band
Aluminum accumulator piston (plastic from factory)
Sonnax Sure Cure
O/D bearing/race (sonnax update)
Low roller clutch
O/D roller clutch
Governor pressure sensor
GM governor pressure solenoid
Sonnax reverse servo
Upgrade the rear planet to a four pinion
Upgrade the o/d clutches to 47RE specs
Precision New Hampton torque converter, lowered RV stall.
