Well I talked to my buddies dad and he won't rebuild it if I buy the kit myself because he can't guarantee the parts and such. But he did quote me 1600 for a stock rebuild with one year warranty. So if I can't find someone to rebuild it, that'll probably be my option.

Ask if he will rebuild it with no guarantee... mega viper spec with no warranty > stock rebuild with 1 year warranty.

If warranty is not that big an issue, rebuild it yourself. Follow the tranny threads here and FSM. It is not that difficult. OR - send it and parts here and I'll rebuild for $500 with no warranty!

VB is doing great. Took it to Eastland yesterday and loaded up about 1500 pounds of shop equipment, loaded Jag on trailer and hooked up to RV, and made a mad rush back to Austin area. Truck ran great - wife was driving it. Somehow, she did not want to drive the RV and trailer!

Have everything I need to rebuild a tranny bit the hyd press...going to pick it up Monday!

Well I called PATC and ordered the MegaViper kit, plus they switched out two parts to fit my application better. Total 1060 shipped with torque converter. Really didn't want to spend that much but hopefully I won't have to deal with it again. The shop will charge me 900 for labor plus a cooler/radiator flush, plus fluids and small stuff. So he said around 1100.

That's actually a pretty good price to end up with a mega-viper in your truck.....

^^ Yep. I upgraded my transmission per MonteC's advice and the total bill (including labor) was under $1,900. I was a hap-hap-happy camper and the performance has been outstanding.

Follow the factory fluid/filter change and band adjustment schedule and your transmission will provide years of trouble-free service.
