What DO you use it for? If that was a strip car, I would say 2300 would be about right, but, given it goes behind a 250 horse V-8, in a 5K+ pound truck....... I am thinkin' the guy either wasn't aware of that, or, has never done anything with trucks before.....
Mostly street driving, I do like to beat it up though. It makes trips to the offroad park several times during the year. He said that with cam, that stall speed will give it room to breathe. Also said that when I come up to a river or some muddy trail that if I wanted to just stomp on it or if I did a power brake launch it would be an incredible difference. I thought it was on the high side too, but since I don't know a lot about transmissions and they're a performance transmission shop, I figured he knew what he was talking about.
And with the new motor I was slowly working on, he said with an estimated 300-400 horse motor it would be a great improvement.

So then you're putting a not-a-truck engine in, so having a not-a-truck torque converter is a good match. It makes a strange sort of sense. Takes the generally utility of a truck away, but if it meets your needs all's good.
Don't show that rig heavy loads, or moderate loads with long grades ahead, or you'll run up against cooling system limits.
