building a most fuel economic ram 1500 5.2L
ok here is my gauge performance after 90 miles of mix driving with 87 octane gas. outside weather is cold so temperature can;t maintain 205 degree, but it also means fan is not on all time , so it does not draw amps from alternator, save fuel in either way. after about 200 miles of driving gas pedel response is better, i guess is thoes molly piston rings and rod bearings loose a bit. be patient on my report, i drive my other car for work, will give you guys a more accuracy mileage report good or bad. thanks

Our course was East Lake Mead to Nellis, Nellis to Las Vegas Blvd, and out past the base to the interstate. I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant that was our lunch stop... it was about three miles off of the exit in Mesquite, on the left.
Anyway, if you're not able to hit those numbers on that trip then you've spent too much to gain too little. I was doing that with 265's in the wheel wells, a cold air intake, a Gibson exhaust, an upgraded ignition (Screamin' Demon and so on), and a Superchips on the towing tune.
I'm curious to know how that might go for you, if you're inclined to drive that far for lunch.
As a point of reference: In my truck, a 4x4 with a 360, with about 300 pounds added between the headache rack, toolbox, and toolbox contents, with the old lady and I in the cab, I saw 14.3MPG to 14.8MPG running from East Lake Mead Boulevard north of Hollywood (almost out of town) to Mesquite and back with lunch (and so an engine cool-down) in the middle. For each run I filled up at the Chevron at Lake Mead and Hollywood the night before, then filled up on the return trip. When the winds were just completely out of hand, my mileage dropped into the 13's or even 12's, but I threw those trips out.

I just hauled out Google Maps -- it's the Golden West at 91 East Mesquite Boulevard. The food is marginally better than you'll find at the casinos near the interstate. You won't catch a filet as good as at Billy Bob's at Sam's Town, but you won't be barfing on the shoulder of the interstate like you might after eating at the Casablanca in Mesquite.
Anyway, if you feel like making a check the mileage/have some lunch run, I'm curious to know how it's all working out for you. That was the run the ole lady and I used to take for checking the highway mileage -- 75MPH all the way, with some hills, a good indicator of what the thing will do in the real world. But the wind can be a bitch, so I chucked those runs out of the average. It beat hell out of going to Jean and getting a hot dog at the gyp joint, knowhuddamean?
Thinking on it: Are you thinking of Blueberry Hill on Las Vegas Blvd. and Nellis or thereabouts? My boy loves Blueberry Hill, I'd rather go hungry until I can cook my own.
