building a most fuel economic ram 1500 5.2L
Dodge_Dude, Chevy's DON'T get 20MPG... Admit it.... Friends who had Chevy's always got poorer gas mileage... With the exception of a tuned Duramax diesel. Only one person I know has a gasoline Chevy that gets 20MPG
FOR EXAMPLE: my dad and I had to go pick up some equipment in Kansas last year, driving through Texas, we managed 16mpg. After filling up in Oklahoma, with Ethanol-free gas, we got 19.
19 is what the truck is rated for, back in 2002 pre-ethanol mandate.
Good luck, but I don't see you getting anywhere near that out of this truck.
*EDIT*
Tech, actually, I beg to differ, my grandpa has a 2003 Chevy 1500, idk what engine is in it, I guess the 5.3. Whenever they go to Louisiana to gamble they get 18mpg. And that's with my grandpa, Mr. Leadfoot, driving 80 mph down the interstate.
get a ford truck with a fuel injected 4.9L engine and 5 speed transmission. my dad has one and is capable of consistantly getting 20mpg when doing highway driving on normal 87 gas with 10% ethanol. i would guess if he was to run the ethanol free 91 octane gas he could get a bit better gas mileage.
I'll back up dodge dude94 on the chevy gas mileage. Had a '98 K1500 4x4 5L Vortec V8, damn thing got awesome gas mileage, expect on a trip to Va, it does worse then the Ram in the mountains, great on the interstate though.
