Merc,
The Solus is out of my price range right now. I would love to have one. Going to have to get a MT/MTG2500 instead for now. When the wife gets a job again and the money starts flowing better then I can look at stuff like the Solus Ultra.

FWIW, for the sub-200 range, Innova's 3160B scan tool can do freeze frame and SRS data capture, just no OBD I support for the older vehicles, unlike the 3140 (I'm seriously considering this, eventually, as the Solus Ultra is also way out of my budget lol)......Opinions?

I just bought a Blue Point Microscan III yesterday from the snapon fella. Used it twice already to diagnose my F250 work truck and to clear the codes off the old man's Hemi. It can read live data and some other good stuff. Haven't gotten a chance to mess around with it much yet

i sprung for the OTC nemisys 3822. does freeze frame, reads my chrysler/dodge transmission temps, O2 stuff. have to play around with it a little more as there are lots of features, i have the smart cable so thats helpful. does some graphing/trending but haven't played areound to much.

So far it's done good. Otc call centre was really good about answering all me questions pre purchase too.

I went for a ELM327 setup.

It can do just about anything on anything, $35 for the device, and $15 for the scantool software (live data and codes, also custom display). Then it's whatever extra for the software that can modify certain operating parameters (software availabliity varies on device/vehicle, and actual computer).

So I'm happy with it. It's alot easier than the OTC Monitor Enhanced I was borrowing from a friend.

Best of all it works with BOTH a laptop AND a Android smartphone!

So does anyone know what scan tool will allow you to get beyond generic codes like P0700? I know that 0700 is a generic TCM code but I would like to get into the TCM and be more specific. So I'm looking at purchasing a DIYer Scantool....lets say like $200 or lower? Any input would be appreciated!

Snap on MT2500 series scanner. They are frequently available on EBay for around 200.

Ohh yeah, I remember this lil fella from back when I was in high school taking Auto Tech! At least, that's what it looked like anyway (I remember the little scroll wheel on the Snap-On scanner I used, also used it for the Ford/AAA Troubleshooting Contest I went to in Charlotte NC back then). Definitely a very handy scanner and one I'd recommend

Is there a scanner tool to be able to custom set the temperature on/off settings for the OEM electric cooling fan? I bought a SCT tuner and got some custom tunes from Hughes. I did not realized they reprogrammed the default oem temp on/off setting to 150 on and not sure about off but problaby around 130. This is way too low for me as I have trouble with the durango getting out of warmup mode I guess when it is freezing outside. Truck is holding around 160 with fan running in freezing temp.

I am waiting to see if they can send me a new tune with the new temp settings that I want set but I know they will charge me for it. I have not gotten a price from them yet on the programming changes but am worried it may cost as much to just go purchase a hypertech or diablo tuner that has some of these custom tune settings to control my cooling fan, etc...
