i just don't see why a non-mopar sensor wouldn't be just as good. its just a magnet.
the one from advance is in the truck now. the one that was in it(smp with 35k on it) had the wire ripped from the connector.

i read somewhere on here a while back that the truck was picky as to what brand sensor was in it.

edit: only other thing i can think of, is the flexplate... its from a 96, or 97(bought it from techningeer) and my truck is a 2001. thinking they could be different, no?

oh, i misunderstood that the new one from Advance got newly damaged.
i wouldn't think the flexplates would be any different.

did the backfiring just start or has it been there since the first starts. i was thinking your first dry startups were ok.

its been backfiring for a bit now. im not sure whats causing it. but the fact that i bought a cheap ckps could be the reason.

when i get some more money in a couple weeks ill get a delphi from rock auto, and try that.

only other thing i can think of is that the timing from the 318, 93 tune might be off... who knows. the custom tune is coming this week!

I'd contact Sean and get his input. Specifically if it is the tune, he would know.

I am looking at scanners on Ebay right now and there are a bunch of MT2500 Snap On's but then I found this Taskmaster from Mac. Does anyone know if you can set the fuel sync with the Taskmaster? What do I need to look for from any scanner to know if it will set the fuel sync or not?

Thanks

RNR, Maybe try moving your dist one tooth either direction to see if that will help? A guy on the Dodge Talk forum just went thru this issue with it backfiring thru the intake and he fixed it by moving his dist one tooth.

if its made by mac tools, im sure itll set the fuel sync...

dizzy is spot on as far as being a tooth off goes... already delt with that issue before the motor went it.

i know... just driving me nuts. if it was 180 out it wouldnt be running at all.

its either getting too much fuel, too late, or fuel early, and spark late. so its gotta be a timing thing.

gonna swap out the cam sensor(pickup coil) in a bit, and see if that helps...

Your are right on both accounts, just try what I posted turn the dizy a little each way see if it improves, as posted there is nothing to lose by trying this and its free. You can also try going into the - for fuel sync.
