Default New Edge Programmer problem

Ok so I just recently bought a edge evolution cs off of a friend that had had it about a month and everybody I have taled to has said that they have all of these options on what they can pull up as a gauge and all I want is to simply get instant mpg as one of the gauges and I CAN NOT FIND IT!! All of the people I have talked to that has the same programmer says, like I said, that they have a big list of options and can bring up mpg with no problem and I have probably not even half of the ones they have. I plugged it into the laptop and demo mode popped up and I had all of the things that they have and found the mpg and it worked and then I plugged it back into my truck and it was the same thing as before. HELP!!!

These trucks are old dude, as Dlyter said they dont have the sensors to read all that stuff. I suppose your friends truck was a newer one?

No his was a 98 also. It was a ford though. But I contacted edge and they said they have tried and tried to make it to where they will work on ones like mine and they just cant figure it out. :/ I have another question too. On my truck it says to use 91 octane in tow mode. I am running 89 in it right now and I am getting ready to haul a fish and ski boat to town. Will using 89 hurt anything??

These trucks just dont have those kind of sensors.. There isnt very much you can monitor with those types of programmers.. I usually just run whatever is recommended to run... My car recommends 93 but says 89 is ok.. I still run 93 anyway.

And mpg calculations are just that - calculations. They are not accurate, but base on air flow, miles driven, and "estimated" fuel through the system. They are not accurate.

Other mpg gauges are vacuum based, and even less accurate...

Try it with a quarter tank of 89, if no pinging, you're OK. If pinging, stop somewhere and put in another quarter tank of 93. That should bring the octane level up to 91.
Or you could go 1/2 tank, 1/2 tank.

Ok. I didn't notice any "pinging" that you speak of. lol But I wasn't very impressed with the tow setting. I did notice a difference in power but not what I was expecting. :/ I think my truck just has a bad ignition problem somewhere. Because I replaced the plug wires about three months ago and put new plugs in it yesterday and got the programmer 3 days ago and I am not going to lie, I can tell a BIG difference! And that is just in Eco mode! But like I said when I was hauling our boat in tow mode today, not what I was expecting! I think it might need a new cap and rotor possibly?? And another thing, what is the 3rd program? It says 87 octane and I used it the other day to see what it would do and it was like power wise it went back to stock. lol

Tow mode only disables O/D, and slightly alters shift points. That's it. There is no more power to be had from it.

If you don't know how old the cap/rotor is, replace them.
