Then something is wrong elsewhere, I had no trouble in 4wd, even when towing a trailer. But I'm suspicious it wasn't a factory t/c, trans place told me it wasn't, and they probably were right. Hell knows where it came from...

With t/c unlocked at highway speeds had no trouble making 4000RPM...

But Like I Said, Call Precision And Ask Them, They Will Be Able To Tell You If A Lower Stall T/C Would Be A Good Idea For A Stock Setup.

I dunno. Been a while since I've been in 4WD.

If you had a non-stock TC, and you had no problem towing a trailer, wouldn't that be a GOOD thing?

In other news, what brand of trans filter should I get?
O'reillys has 3, PowerTorque, Wix, and ACDelco.

I'm leaning toward Wix, but it says nothing about having gaskets with it whereas the PowerTorque does. I'm rather leary of a brand I've never heard of before...

ACDelco.

And as far as non-stock TC, the higher stall I think made the largest difference in how much we actually struggled to tow...

It's definitely the cheapest, but it doesn't say if it comes with a gasket or not. Also it's an off site order, so if I have to wait a day I might as well get the Wix. *waiting for others to chime in*

What do you mean? I thought you had a lower stall in it to begin with?

No, higher stall.

Stall of your torque converter can be determined in two ways, the first being the most accurate.

- With the vehicle chocked on both sides of ALL FOUR TIRES, and the emergency brake on, and the brake applied to the max, put the vehicle in 1st gear, and floor the accelerator. The RPM at which the engine cannot go any higher RPM wise is your stall speed. Note: This WILL generate TONS of heat...

- Second is, with TC lockup mod, disable T/C lockup, and floor it, watch for max engine RPM in same gear. Not very accurate in most cases, but can be under the right circumstances.

With the first method I had no trouble making over 2000RPM stall.

Well that IS the right way to determine stall speed if the TC specs are not known. With TC unlocked, at 55MPH, in 2nd gear I could race the engine to 4000RPM.

But, again, I cannot overstress that you need to call them, because they will be able to tell you the stall speed that best fits your application. I know many people running precision TCs, ALL of them are very happy. And no I am not related to Precision in any way, I am just spreading word about a awesome product.

I might give them a call when the time comes...

In other news, what size cooler should I get when this all goes down? Medium duty or Heavy?

Heavy. I bought the largest one available from the 3 auto parts stores, designed for a RV, and it was still only half the size of my factory cooler.
