I just tacked it with fluxcore. I only have a cheap 120v welder at home. We have a Lincoln at our shop, but my friend is doing the final welding for me. Once I get enough money for my rockers I'm going to finish it and put it in. Probaly within a month.

I am thinking that if you welded it yourself, even with your cheapy welder, by the time you were done, you would be layin' some fine lookin' beads.

i am a professional welder/fabricator and mechanic. i taught myself to weld then just researched and practiced my welding on small projects. now i can weld anything with any style welder mig,tig and stick. The hardest part with starting to weld is forking out the large amounts of cash for a welder. a crappy welder will make learning very difficult

I'm going to go with the 1.6 ratio. My cheap welder that I used to tack the exhaust together is from harbor freight. It cost like $100. I recommend picking one up along with one of there auto darkening helmets for like $40. That is if you have a harbor freight in your area.

Snow, been looking at your build, looks preety sweet! Just to confirm, you're using the 2.02 EQ heads, a ported kegger, 1.7 HS rockers (when you get them), and what camshaft? Looks like you're aiming more for upper end power? Is that right? I'm just trying to learn.

I'm actually running stock sized valves. I heard it takes a lot of mods to make use of the 2.02's and the smaller valves help increase port velocity which increases torque. Don't quote me on any of that though, not sure if it's accurate or not haha. I'm also going to go with the stock ratio (1.6) HS rockers. Reason for getting the lower ratio rockers is I have all the lift I want in my cam(comp cam 20-604-9). A bigger rocker arm ratio puts more wear on the valve guides. And since my intake is from a 99' it doesn't have the center divider in it from the factory so I guess it could be considered ported. I am aiming for more bottom to midrange power.
