Might buy truck with 5.9
I wouldn't buy it simply because of what I've learned from my time on here. I bought my truck for $4500 and I thought I got a great deal. At the time 197K on body, rebuilt motor & new tranny, 36s with 4.88s and a 7.5" lift. With what I've learned I wish I would've waited for a 2000-02 2500 360 Sport. It sucks since I see them often now in great shape for decent prices. Not saying I don't like my truck since I love it, but if you can wait I would hold off for a near perfect deal. You'd still be putting a lot of money into that truck regardless of condition.
Like posted look for a 2500 so much further ahead diff/xcase wise.
It's hard to tell in those pictures but the rear fenders look rusty and maybe even the doors/rockers. From past experience I would rather have to do mechanical work than body work. It's easy to get excited over something and rush into it and than wish you would have looked around more later on.
At times I find it as J Keaton says about Craigslist...................I don't avoid Craigslist, I try something different now. If there is a truck I have an urge for, I type it into Mitula with email alerts. It collects it for me, sends it to me, I review it and the deal has to be so good, it's worth the call. Then you realize all the hoops you would have to jump through. If you lose the inner argument, it's because it's the best deal for the long haul if it's all it's cracked up to be. K.

Well I'm still looking daily and equally looking at 2500's. Nothing has peaked my interest as of yet. Definitely would get a gas 2500 though if the right truck comes up. not a diesel. Not a diesel fan. I believe I read that not every 2500 gas has Dana 60s though. Like a heavy duty d44/9.25. Is this true and if so, how do you tell without actually seeing the truck? If its 8 bolt is it automatically a 60?

The light duty 2500s were only available the first few years, I think 94 and 95. I think they were stock 1500 axles with 8 lugs. Might be kind of tough to tell. You could get pictures of the diffs or decode the vin maybe. Might want to stay away from the obd1 trucks if you want to do some engine mods.
I think that arguments in here in DF. My 97 2500 gas 8 lugger build sheet (brief description).
Sales Code Description
DJFS Dana M60/248MM Front Axle
DMDP 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio
DRDP 200MM Rear Axle
200MM rear axle, that's why I was thinking light duty (I haul with the diesel, and the wife just needs it for me to haul her furniture-it's a keeper). K.

Okay so if I did find a 2500, I would need pics of the front and rear diffs. That shouldn't be a problem. Most of the trucks I find aren't exactly local (2-5 hours away) because I live in a very small town so options are limited.
