The only thing that might make my frame stronger than yours is the added steel cross bracing welded into it for the gooseneck hitch. Otherwise it's just as flimsy and that bracing is not stock...

HD springs and axles don't make my frame any stronger. I would cringe if my truck had to go through one of those flex tests because I know my frame is only partially boxed.. it's not boxed all the way front to back so it definitely has its weak spots.

Jigabop what are your thoughts on fully boxing the frame? I hear a lot of yays and nays either way.

you could do it but you would likely want the bed and fuel tank off of the frame to do it.

I'm not positive on the 1500's but my 2500 has it boxed up to the transmission mount cross-member. beyond that I think it is c-channel IIRC. so really the only place not boxed is under the bed. you could do it if you really wanted to but I think it is a waste of time unless you plan on rock crawling or flexing with it...

That went completely over your head.

Weak was referring to the lack of power these trucks have, even compared to dingy little V6 gasoline engines of today....

Wasn't talking in the least bit about the frames....

They don't bend in the middle like Chevy's, good enough for me.

2nd gen 1500 and 2500 had the same frame. IDK about the 2500HD and 3500 but I suspect they are similar.. I don't do rock crawling but I do hit some odd angles off road sometimes.

I was thinking moreso along the lines of improving payload capacity by boxing the whole frame.

My truck is like this. My 2500 gas parts truck was like this.

Mine was boxed to the rear of the cab, c-channel there after.

The diesel lacks power in stock form too...well at least the older ones.. the newer ones are pretty snappy in stock form.

diesel is easier to modify and built 10x stronger, but bone stock vs bone stock: the diesel is gutless.

A big thing with the new trucks is how far the auto trans have come. Better gearing, more gears. Getting lock up and getting heavy loads moving from a dead stop.

Hell, almost all the new big boy truck sbeing made at Volvo the past couplw years have been autos. It's becoming the standard.

Ain't that the truth.

Besides crappy programming by Dodge the auto on our trucks is the biggest killer in my opinion
