This motor has had vacuum problems since I bought the truck, so I'm not sure if it would or not. I pulled all of the cruise hardware quite a while before the cab swap.
But, with that being said, I do remember the wiring pretty well matching between the columns. I didn't have to change anything for the ignition or multifunction switch to work. The key halo even worked on the 98 column. The 97 never did work that I can remember, and I've been around this truck since it was new.

Reason: Spelling/ grammar
I *Think* that the controls for cruise might be problematic though... (should you ever decide to put it back on....) The buttons work by modifying a signal voltage from the PCM, by passing it thru various value resistors.... and I think the values of those resistors changed from 97 to 98... but, not 100% sure on that.
That would make sense. I know the fuel gauge is a similar story.
With a full tank, the gauge reads 3/4. The gauge then goes to empty after 10 gallons used, about 2/3 of a tank is what it should be. This is with a 34 gallon tank. I'm hoping I don't have to make any major mods to change to a 97 fuel pump.
Guess we'll find out in the near future. I'm probably going to have to change it to keep up with the new motor.
Belated update: I finally finished putting the motor together about 2 weeks ago. Pictures are on my photobucket page, I just haven't been on a computer to move them to the right folder.
The install got put on hold because of yard projects that I have been neglecting. I think I managed to get them roughed in enough for now this weekend. I will probably start pulling the old motor out this week.
I'll keep the updatest coming as time and ambition allow.
Well, this was about 2 hours of messing around Tuesday afternoon.
Got the front end opened up.
It's not much, but it's a start. I should hopefully have this thing out tomorrow and a good start on setting the new motor in before the weekend is over.
I still need to wait for my tune from FlyinRyan before I can do much, but I should be able to start it and run in the cam. Hopefully it fires right up and I don't have any major leaks. We shall see
Ryan is outstanding. I've been working with him on my 390 for the last few weeks. He's responsive and has a great work ethic. After just 4 tunes my truck is running great.

He is. We had planned on this swap around this time (mid~end july). I was ready to swap a little sooner, but he was/ is swamped with all these dyno days he's doing, plus everything else.
I was invoice #2 on his new website, account #7.
