Default Just Curious build thread

Here is my late grandfathers dodge ram magnum 1500. got it just like this from him. My little brother will be getting it on his 16th birthday in January and i have a lot planned for it for him. He does already know and has been helping me with the work and buying some stuff himself working for a farmer in the summers.

maybe he will take over this account once he sees the benefits of forums like i do.

The first thing was rims and tires that he bought with an extra $150 from me.

Here is a close up shot

Here is a side shot to show the offset.
They are 18x9 with -12 offset wrapped with 275/65r18 tires

the next thing we did was start work on custom front and rear bumpers. here is a shot of the mock up. should be cutting out the steel one this weekend. itll be 3/16 plate. i have done FEA and weight analysis on it using my Solidworks CAD software.

and a shot of the rear without bumper..

Next we got some lights..

he said he wanted to turn on the halos and the LED strip whenever he wanted so heres what we came up with.

when you turn them on then it works

and a shot of the actual lights on

Oh, that's gonna be fun....

But, wheels and tires for 150? Or was that just what you helped him out with?

Nice truck and I like where this is going. Love the bumper mock up, more pics on progress as you proceed please. Yah, $150 is a great deal for rims and tires, nice find!

Finally got the mounts cut out and holes drilled. Made it out of 3/4 inch Steel plate. I decided to do a little finite element analysis on the part before getting it made. Used the breaking strength of the shackles that will be on each mount. Conclusion is that the mount will not deform more than 6 thousandths of an inch before the shackle breaks.. so i think they will be sturdy enough.

Thought i would throw up a few teaser pictures and some updates

Got the paint in, going with a metallic grey.

Also bought some linextreeme bedliner. going to test it out. if it fades after a few years, he can always get it done with line-x. Going to do the bumpers and the bed.

Got some fender flares that will be either color matched or done in bedliner.

Friend of mine built a custom CNC plasma table, so i designed the bumper completely and got it all cut out!

Here are the finished pieces.

Test fit for the cubes that will be for the front and the rear.

Top plate fitment for the front.
