I've seen some of yours here and there all over this forum. However, the photo-memory is not what it used to be in going back to find them all. So maybe this thread could be a collection of them. The collection would serve to flaunt our pride/joy of the effort having taken to access them as well as a good reference for others to see what might be the condition.

I was going to say something in another thread a few days ago about what the OEM gasket looks like. Now I don't have to.

 

Talk about a public service! Kudos, WN. It's important for people to be able to see what normal PCV system deposits look like -- especially so with the persistent myth that anything other than shiny steel on the top of the belly pan is an indication of failure.

 

Yeah, mine sure didn't look like that though.... Wonder if it was MINE that had been into before, and they put in the cork gasket......

 

Not like Ive done a 100 but ive never seen a cork one before. I do know, that at some point, Dodge made an upgraded gasket. The oldest one Ive worked on is a 97, and thats what the gasket looked like. Loose bolts and all.

 

Here's my plenum pictures:

Thanks sir. I felt it was necessary to highlight this aspect of anything related to evaluating the plenum gasket condition. I've seen many a posts where (imo) the quick assumption of a blown gasket was stated in the absence of better evidence. I will say that one that does not get 100% confirmation until they have pulled the plate physically. The only other way would seem to pull the entire throttle body off and a super visual inspection, among other things.


So you old-timers, I mean vintage dudes, I mean bad asses could put up your pictures OR as best you can note your mileage, condition, and replacement method.

 

I had about 165K on mine, and it was most certainly blown out. Four places at least. Some parts of the gasket were missing completely.... (no clue where they went, and I didn't find them in the oil pan when I did the pump either....) I didn't get pics...

 

You do know the topic is plenum gasket right? Not VC or trans pan!
