Default better fuel milage? or POS

ok.. when i bought my 01 ram 1500 .. it came with one of those 'tornado' things.. bolts to the top of the intake.. then the tb bolts to it.. supposed to make the gas milage better? i hear it whenever i get into it.. and my gas milage is crap.. of course it IS a 5.2 and i have 35 inch tires on stock gears.. should i leave it in.. or take it out? btw.. heres pics of the truck

Hey nice lookin' truck.
First things first, how bad is your gas mileage.

I have a 5.9 with 33's on it and no lift, and I get about 13.5-15mpg

So with 5 inches of lift and 35s on it, you should be getting about 11-12 mpg.

There's a world of things that can effect gas mileage. I'm not really sure about the tornado thing you're talking about. I've heard of them but I have no experience with them at all.

Here's my guess, correct me if I'm wrong.
Your spedometer and odometer are caliberated for LT245/75-16 tires (or 30 inch tires)
You now have 35's on there which is throwing your speedometer off, and throwing your odometer off so you're actually going further than your odometer is telling you (good for resale)
So truthfully you are getting about 10-11 mpg maybe a little better.

I have to do the same thing to a little bit of a lesser extent (33's vs.35s).
I know it doesn't change the real distance you have to drive. Or the amount of times you'll have to fill up the tank. But it does feel a little better knowing you're getting 11-12 instead of 8-9. You could have the speedometer recaliberated if you wanna know your true mileage. but you may as well leave it like it is so when you go to sell your truck it'll have about 15k less miles on the odometer

your not 5 mph off, your a percentage off... from my 2000 ram... with 34" tires I was 9.3% off, with 33's on I was 8.7% off so 9.5~9.7% would be a good compensation range for calculating mileage... I just multiplied the amount of miles off the odometer by 1.093 and got my true mileage.

what is your motor setup like? stock? modded? exhaust dual/single?

As far as that tornado thing, I think that's it's trying to create a swirl effect into your intake manifold. Ours is an open design (beer barrel) on the inside of the manifold, and as such any swirling or "rifling"of air is impossible to maintain (it's like trying to blow a really fast stream of air with your cheeks puffed out, air goes further with cheeks in because it doesn't lose velocity when it hits that big, open space). It's probably the equivalent of a TB spacer on our trucks. My guess is it is only taking up space.

right now motor setup is stock.. iexcept for that 'tornado' thing .. i am going to start modding it soon.. little by little.. going to put cold air intake thinking about pcm flash.. but that kinda scares me.. i have seen too many people killin em .. but i am going to start replacing alot of it with high performance parts.. time to put new headlights on it.. the guy that had it before me had strobes in it.. took them out and they leaked.. didnt plug the hole.. filled with water.. now d/s headlight is black.. thinking on the one piece 'halo projection lights' on ebay.. what you guys think? btw.. i am going to take off that thing im talkin about and take pics of it.. i will post it

oh, forgot to comment on the "tornado" thing... they dont work as well as the TB spacers on the mag motor. the amount of space in the intake prevents either form being effective. they would probablywork better on a short runner type of intake setup.
