rear drum brake *CHEAP UPGRADE*
I did this on my Ram 2 years ago. The only thing I will add about my Ram that isn't in my signature is that I have rear wheel ABS and I upgraded to the GM 1 ton dually wheel cylinders ,the ones THE BURNING ROM recommended. The mod works great. After you break in your rear shoes you can lock up your rear breaks pretty easy. The only problem that I had is originally I put on budget shoes. After about 8 months I started hearing a horrible shreaking noise from my rear breaks. I assumed that I had burned up the rear shoes and i was destroying my drums. When I got everything taken apart I was surprised to find that I still had most of my pad material remaining, but the material got too hot and had glazed over and on most of my shoes they had actually cracked in the middle. When i checked this out about a year ago I didn't want to have to down grade back to the stock wheel cylinders so I purchased the top of the line shoes from O'reilly, I think they cost about 50 dollars, and since then I have had no problems.
I worked well for me I did have one problem I set the brakes to tight and they started to get hot. Then I went to loosen them and they would not loosen so I took it all apart and got it right after that it blow the wheel cylinder apart but I fixed it and all is well now.
I have done this mod a few months ago but I do not see much performance.
I must push the pedal further down then before the swap.
This weekend I am going to change the lines to stainlles ones and I want to change the front caliper for a 1 ton caliper because the have a little bigger bore, and going to change the pads for Hawks.
Also changing for Powerslot rotors
Hope that makes a difference
