engine swap?

engine swap?
I bought a 95 dodge 1500 a couple of months ago. It has a 5.2 liter in it right now with about 170,000 miles on it. I think it will be needing a overhaul in the near future and was wondering how much work it is to put a 5.9 in the truck instead. Will I have to get alot of new stuff or will the old fit?

RE: engine swap?
170000 miles on those engines isnt a lot anymore either, i have a 5.9 with 180000 miles on it it uses a liter of oil every oil change and still runs strong, i would start with bolt ons for you motor, some of which will be able to be used on the 5.9 you plan on swaping in, such things as an air intake, exhaust, i sugest flowmaster 40 series, both motors share many parts

RE: engine swap?
If you do decide to do the 318 to 360 swap there are only 3 parts that are different. You must use a 360 crankshaft damper and a 36- flex plate. These are required because the 318 is an internally balanced engine and the 360 is an externally balanced engine. The balancing for the 360 is in the damper and flexplate. The 318 parts wil lfit, but you'l ltear the engine to pieces running it.
The last piece is a 360 engine computer for the 95 1500. The 318 computers fuel curves wil ladjust to the 360 requirements in time, but the 360 computer will work much better.
Otherwise everything else matches up exactly.
