I've installed a Dr. Evil Pure Evil tranny. Cost me $2100 shipped to the local freight dock. Another $500 install. Tranny came with deep tranny pan, heavy duty tranny cooler, shipping both ways, and is built to handle the towing I do. Very strong tranny and worth every penny.

my rebuild cost 2800, be happy..lol
I am going to see if they will throw in the add-on tranny cooler for free or knock off $250. I asked if they use any OEM Chrysler/Mopar parts, he laughed and said, not unless you want to see me again in 50K. I didn't ask for actual part names, but just asked if its going to be better than it was new, when it was stock. he said, if I maintain it, I could get an easy 100K. Well, the truck already has another 105K and I don't plan on putting on more than 100K, I only put on 10K a year. I don't see this lasting 10yrs.
but I can't afford a new car right now.
After this nightmare i am going to tackle the dodge door rot.

hey,I have an idea, light your truck on fire, and turn it into the insurance company and say it was and accident

HAha, it should work theoretically

Oh, and make sure you put full coverage on it the day before, to make it look less obvious

For giggles get a quote from the dealer.
Not all tranny shops (but quite a few I know personally) really cheap out on their rebuilds.
Lots of used parts, even clutches. Know what your buying...

Holy mother of god, 2800$$$$$$, you could have bought a 5 speed and had someone install it for that price
yea it was 2800 when my father had it rebuilt. I since then have bought the truck from him,and as soon as it goes im having my buddy trailer it down to virginia to get a Dr. Evil tranny put in so I dont have to worry about a core charge. There is still a warranty on her, but I honestly don't know how long she will hold out.The overdrive clip/pin/wtf u call it got ate up, went to the clutches and had their way with them. sorry I forgot to mention it was 2800 with tranny and new torque converter, full synthetic atf+4 (which is interesting because he was going to put dex III mercon in there and use a friction modifier in there. He claimed they see a lot of dodges in the shop and they claim that they believe the mopar fluid itself may be a cause.) I worked in the area of the shop so I went over after work and talked with the guy. I told the guy to put atf + 4after I laughed in his face when he told me bout the dex III. He also replaced a few sensors and stuff. ah w/e .... I really want my dream truck, so maybe ill find it and dump all my money into her instead. I really want an 01 ram 2500 v10 5spd manual, black w/lift. heck ill post a picture. Someone posted it up on here and set it as my background. maybe 1day....

If you go with the rebuild
pay the extra money to get a new torque converter
instead of a rebuilt one with lower durability,
it is usually less than $100 to get the new official Chrysler part number tc

I'm new to Dodge Ram ownership and I'm shocked that there hasn't been anyone who has found a better replacement trans of the 46RE. It would be nice if someone came up with an adapter plate, input shaft, and PCM mod to install a 727 of 700R. Or a Tremec or Richmond 5 speed would be nice.
