NV3500 never came behind the hemi. (5.7 liter) Wouldn't last long there in any event. Changing over to the 5.7 driveline would be expensive. Doing the 318 would be cheaper, and the NV3500 actually came behind those..... not to mention the Dakota's came from the factory with 5.2s... all the parts for the swap should be available at the local scrapyard.

ok im not talking the 5.7L hemi im talking the 5.7L chevy and i understand that they came with the 318 i own one. they also came with the 5.9 (in the r/t) but it cost 1500 to build a chevy 350 and about 4500 to build a 318. thats why im going with the chevy 350. im also running the 290 gears in the rear so im not looking for light to light im looking to pull 160 180 from exit to exit well getting 25 mpg at 60 lol

Ah. Yeah, parts for the chevy small block are plentiful, and dirt cheap.... Does present an advantage...... Might wanna look at putting the NV4500 behind it though...... not sure how long the 3500 would live.

I have more questions, but, this is WAY off-topic for this thread.

If you're talking about a Dakota R/T, The ONLY transmission it ever came with is the 46RE automatic.

no no no no no no no no no the R/T in 1998 there were 650 made with the 5speed nv3500. I owned one which was model number 109 this what the first truck i personally owned. it was actually released in 1997 then the R/t was changed over to the auto after then initial release because the tc was destroying the drive train (not that the 318 doesn't still) they also tuned them down by removing the divider in the intake to rise the power band from 2500rpm to 3000rpm. they did the same thing to the srt-4 and srt-10. the first 250 srt-4s had about 50 more hp and tc and the srt-10 had about 75 more hp and tc. (this information came from motor technition that build the power plant for the srt and r/t dodges from 1990-2006 when he passed away.) My first dakota was totalled her name was black betty because she was one black dirty bitch that didnt wanna do anything but run **** over and funnel gas. first snow of the year in 2007 i totalled it. when i find the picture i will up load them. so everyone can see that they did make them standard.

Yeah I know.....LOL

I've owned my R/T since 2004, I know guys who bought the first model in 1998, even took advantage of the recall...I've never heard, on any Dakota R/T forum of a Dakota R/T coming with anything but a 46RE...Not that I really care, I have a 727 in mine...
