Not really. You drive a 6000lb truck with 15-20 yr old technology. What you get now for gas mileage is about the best you will ever do. There are no magic fixes to improve mpg's in these trucks.

I did the intake fix about a month ago along with replacing the timing chain. MPG is about 16.5 at best with very intense throttle management. The truck still has no guts, but my 318 with 3.55 gears never was a powerhouse. But it still makes trips to the home store for lumber and heave stuff.

I have had my 97 Ram 2500 since July 2013. Seemed to run OK but nothing real special about it. Has 135000 miles on it. Never been good on gas mileage, used oil and noticed it seemed to ping when under acceleration. My 2001 I had ran like a raped ape, decent mileage and plenty of power. Did some google searching and found out about intake problem. This is my next project, answers alot of questions about the performance of this truck. Going to open up the runners and get things sealed up properly and see what happens. Thanks for all the info on this. Will let you know how things go.

ok, after reading all 31 pages of mostly useless banter, I did get the info i needed and appreciate all who helpfully added their info for others like me. I currently have my 5.9 tore down and have decided that i will do is add the Hughes kit, new timing chain - double roller and add the tensioner (2001 V-6 3.9 unit) and rather than cut my runners at all, I am just going to clean up all the nasty casting edges and smooth everything out really nice including the injector ports. The truck is just going to be a daily driver and I am looking for longevity and dependability more then raw horsepower anyway - I have an 01 with the cummins for that - so thanks again for the info.

It wouldn`t hurt to cut the runners back a little, it will help the engine breathe a little better.

All it does is shift the power band a little. It doesn't actually make any more power.

Dont know if this article has already been shown here, but I believe it will anwser a lot of questions that people have about this mod being tested.

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/performance/manifolds.html

This guy basically tests every EFI manifold avaliable for these engines (magnum) on a flow bench. I found the results interisting and quite helpful.

If the topic has already been discused, then by all means just ignore it
