Default EGR support (baffel divider inside intake)

Hello gents (or ladies)

So the time has finally come for me to fix the plenium. I have just ordered the new kit from hughes and am expecting it by the end of the week.

My question is more geared twards the baffel inside the intake. It was mentioned that the purpose of the baffel was to provide support for the EGR tube for engines that are equiped with them. I want to cut my runners down, I have the 5.9 so I havent thought about how much I want to cut, but if my engine has an EGR (which it does) will it be safe to cut the baffel? If so, how far down? If worst comes to worst I will just smooth out all the burs inside the intake and leave it as is. Any advice is appreciated.

What year is your truck?

You could prolly remove a fair bit of the center divider, without compromising the EGR tube. Not like it is under a lot of stress. Basically, all it is, is a tube with a hole in the center of the plenum. I suspect you could completely remove it.... without much in the way of drawbacks. Either that, or remove what's there, then fabricate your own that is supported on both ends, but, doesn't require that center divider.

Its a 1996 ram with the 5.9 and 46re tranny. I know its possible to completely delete the EGR, but that requires new software, which isnt cheep.

A 96 with EGR? Mine doesn't have it...... Nor has the programming been changed, that I am aware of... I don't get any EGR codes..... Is the EGR valve there? Should be on the back side of the keg, toward the passenger side. (if its there.)

96 will have the egr tube in the intake but is blocked off since it doesn't need it. They reused the design from the earlier trucks. 97 was the redesign where they removed it and left the center divider. 98+ removed the center divider. A simple glance at the rear of the manifold will tell you if you have it or not and you shouldn't.

Nope, that's the cannister purge valve. EGR valve (if you even have one) will be on the intake, behind the keg, passenger side. Metal can with a vacuum line or two going to it.

Verry well, I stand corrected then. Thanks for setting the record straight.
So, I dont have an EGR then.

What year did they stop using the divider on the intakes? If I remember corectly it was 1997 rite?

97 or 98, I think. Keep in mind, in 98, they also went to only one coolant temp sensor. (your 96 will have two.)
