i use mobil clean 5000 with st oil filter or a mopar oil filter , cant beat the price at 2.22 qt....
That's what I'm sayin... I don't think the RP is that much better to pay $7/qt for it when you can get the Mobil 1 for a fraction of the cost. I don't claim to know everything about oil, but it doesn't seem logical to me...

I've never tried any of the premium Synthetics just the mass market stuff. I have recently read and heard some very good opinions (backed up by used oil analysis)about Pennzoil Platinum. Based on these reports and the fact you can get PP cheap at walmart I think I will try it next.

As for the 3000 Mile interval it is a bit out of date. I don't think there is a bad conventional oil out there anymore. Even the buck a quart stuff is pretty good.
One thing to keep in mind is not just viscosity break down but contaminants and oil acidity. Even a small amount of antifreeze in your oil can destroy the oils ability to lubricate and fuel contamination is a detriment too.
Another thing is not all engines are the same. Some designs like chain driven over head cams and multiple cams are harder on engine oils and require a more frequent oil service.

There are some good arguments out there comparing modern conventional to synthetics.
Basically if you changing oil every 3K synthetics don't really offer any benefits.
I use them because I run longer oil change intervals and I believe synthetics flow better at extremely low temps.

Hey thanks for staying on topic. I do agree that the sny oil flows better in cold weather and since I live in Colorado and my truck sits outside thats one of the reasons I went with it. Another reason is that Checker Auto had a misprint in a sales ad and I picked up 2 cases of syn at 2 dollars a quart. I did go to royal purple in my dana 60's just because it was close to the same price as other syn diff lubricants. I also believe in using a great oil filter. I dont know if I saw the thread in this forum or not but they had rated different oil filters and wix ranked really high on the list. I used to use fram but they were at the bottom of the list. I recently switched to the napa filter that the oil is filtered in a spiral pattern. according to the parts clerk their filters are made by wix.

Yeah, I believe it was Jr. Mechanic who was saying the NAPA Gold and WIX filters are pretty much the same deal... I think sticking with either WIX, NAPA Gold, Mobil 1, K&N,or Amsoil is the best bet for filters...just my .02

I went and bought my stuff for my oil change today. I ended up buying the Valvoline MaxLife 10W30 Full Synthetic. I have been using the same thing in semi-synthetic and it seems to be good oil. Stopped by NAPA and got a gold filter, and yes they are made by Wix...says it right on the box. I also purchased a can of that Restore...everyone says it's great stuff, so I figured what the heck...

You got any proof to state otherwise?
Your extremely negative attitude of late makes me want to ignore pretty much anything you post.

but you didnt.

what in the world would make you think that more than 3000 miles is appropriate? Because we have iPhones and cars that park themselves?

Incase you didnt know....non synthetic oil was starting to be made about 100,000,000 years ago. Its the same oil today as it was 30 years ago. If your talking about refinement processes, ok then. I will give you that the oil is more pure, and possibly more additives. BUT the oil is STILL and always will be the same base product. Most of the additives are chemical cleaners that stop gunk buildup, they dont desintegrate debris. If nothing else you should change it because of the filter. No matter what mobil 1 says, their filters do not continue to filter at the same capicity after ~3000 miles that it does before. If you have any info from INDEPENDANT studys that show how oil today is better than 30 years ago, Id be more than happy to see it, and I would like to be proven wrong. I most certiantly dont think that I am.
