Did you have it in neutral when you checked the fluid? It's something about the fluid only circulates in N so when checking it you need to put it in N with it running then check it. Just thought I'd throw that out there as I know when I first got my truck I didn't realize that until people told me.

I agree taking it through mud holes everyweekend or beating the snot out of it offroad is probably just as hard as what you do if not worse to it. Those guys are replacing parts left and right too though and most realize they are going to have to. I see guys that wheel them doing ball joints and stuff like that atleast once a year if not more than that where as my truck they lasted 7 years or so. Same goes for the transmission lots of them seem to have the trannys go out really early. I think you have to expect stuff to break a lot sooner anything you are hard on it. To some it's worth it. To some it's not. You just have to decide if you'd rather have fun and break stuff or drive normal and hope it lasts a little longer.

I have a ? for you btw but it doesn't really pertain to this so I'm going to send you a pm.
very true. wheeling is not easy on parts thats for sure. Hell on my Jeep I usually blow a front axle u-joint on almost every time out. but ask anyone whos wheeled with me, I'm about the fastest front axle shaft swapper around. I've done it so much i can change it out on the trail in under 8 minutes. I also don't view breaking parts as a bad thing because it really kind of forces you to learn the ins and outs of your vehicle when your out in the desert somewhere with a broken rig. You get pretty creative too with coming up with ways to fix it.

I also think our friend here is suffering from the same issues i have seen with Jeepers countless times. See i bought my Jeep bone stock. I wheeled it the way it was at first and slowly started building it over the years into what it is today. this allowed me to learn my vehicles capabilities, what it could and couldn't do. And doing all the work myself, even if i didn't know how at first really helped too. I know every inch of my Jeep, I know every sound, smell, noise, etc. If something breaks i can find and fix the issue quickly.

Now the converse side, like our friend here I know alot of guys who just went out and bought a lifted jeep off the dealer lot. Or worse from some wannabe shade tree mechanic, or worse yet, bought a new stock vehicle and dropped it off at a shop with a credit card and said have fun. most of these situations typically mean that the owner does not know what has been done to their vehicle. there is no way to know what the PO or tech did to their ride. Did they do a good job? were all the bolts tightened to spec? did they use the right fluid? what is that funny looking thing that goes from the steering arm to the axle?

This is why I prefer to buy a vehicle stock and build it, it just really helps you get to know your vehicle

I was being sarcastic before[8D]
anyway did he go against all the advice again and just bring it to a tranny shop to get rebuilt? This reminds me of when it went to the dealership....or maybe the tranny shop is just checking it to see whats up, after 11 pages im started to misread things

Yeah, had the truck dropped at the transmission shop this morning...they have yet to call me and give me an update. I think we are onto something here though guys, and I've been discussing this with my brother as well. Obviously I love the way the truck looks, I like the big tires, and I like being up high, period. I think my problems are all because this suspension lift was pieced together, and I have no idea what the details were that made it look the way it does. I'm guessing with the way the truck looked when I bought it was he was just your typical Mainer doing whatever he could to get the truck up high to put the "35s" on her. So I'm stepping back here, and listenting to what you guys are saying. I think in the long haul, I'll be a much much more happy person knowing the lift on the truck, was MY LIFT. Everything will be uniform, everything will work together, and, it will be new. I think you guys are right. I'm going to get this transmission fixed. And then, I am going to focus on buying a new lift for this truck. I'm mostly intrigued by the 5'5 Fabtech lift. It's an awful lot of money, but it really looks well worth it. I would bet that lift kit would truly be a sound system, and be very strucutral. Here's my question, since I own the offroad edition, can I still buy a lift that is made for the 2001 dodge ram 1500? I'll get this tranny fixed. And then, I'm just going to be really gentle on her. The truck still performs pretty good with its existing rigged lift, so this will get me by until I can afford the real deal. Then, once I have that 5'5 Fabtech Liftkit installed on my truck, then I can look into the procomp allterrains/extremes before winter starts. I think this is what I'm confident I want to do. Then, when I look at my truck, I'll know that lift was mine, and I'll know everything is functioning together and not pieced together. It may take me some time to afford it, but what I have now is still a beautiful and well functioning truck that can get me through however long it takes to get the new suspension...and then I'll look into the smoother treaded tire. Does this sound like the right direction guys. And do you think by buying a complete suspension kit, it will be less slinkly feeling. Plus, it can't hurt to add some nice new freshness underneath the truck

Lastly, where is the cheapest prices I can find for getting the 5'5 Fabtech LiftKit? WIll this kit include EVERYTHING I need to properly and safely run 35" tires?

Well im glad your finally starting to come around and see that many people on here do have prior knowledge and do infact have good intentions for the most part to help. I hope you give that pm i sent ya some real thought so you can see the otherside of things. To answer your questions above, yes you can use a lift for a 1500. I think the fabtech kit looks very nice if ya have the $$ to do that kinda thing. I just found the kit at top gun customs for a 1.5G I just looked there because thats what i came across first. I'll take a look around but... yea it does look like a nice kit.

I think that you're already aware of this put when you get the fabtech 5.5" lift it will only lift an offroad ram 2.5" but I think from what I remeber your overall height is 5" so a 5.5" lift will keep you exactly where you are at wich is your goal. Let me know what your doing with any of the parts that your getting rid of. I might be interested in making you a deal. I have a stock height and I want to lift it about 2" in the front. It's nice that your listening a little though. Transmision first then suspension and maybe tires. Think about checking the plenum while your at it.

Here is a little cheaper than i posted a bit ago, expecially if you want bilstein shocks or some other shocks.

Yeah the 5.5" lift would work on yours. You would get about 1.5" less lift so about 4" on your truck over the stock height instead of the 5.5" you would get on the normal rams.
I'd probably throw 4.56" gears in there if you don't already have them to help the tranny last with the 35"s. You should be able to get by okay with 4.10"s in the mean time. Especially if you go with a good tranny like a APS or Dr. Evil. I would be wearry of getting one rebuilt at a local shop as I've heard of too many people having issues when it came back not working right or having a issue shortly down the road. Then again if you find a good shop it should be fine as a local shop can probably build it just as good as one of these companys. It's just that people know those companys are good versus with your local shops you have to sift through to find a good one.

Now howcome my truck will be overall shorter than a regular ram? I thought the liftkit takes off any of the existing suspension components and would make it 5'5. By having the offroad edition, this will cause it to only be 4" of total lift? I agree though, 4.56s sound great to me. I have a lot of plans for this truck, I really would love to keep this baby for years. Hopefully a year from now I'll have the 5'5 Fabtech Kit, the Procomp All-Terrains, and 4.56 gears, wouldnt that be some killer combos huh??
