The only thing that has me worried about doing the whole thing myself... is setting that backlash. I dont have the tool to do it anyway. I think ill ask the guy when I have it done this summer if he'd let me give him a hand. Shoot, but even if that doesnt work out... at least ill get to sit in there office and stare at the mechanics daughter (the secretary) . LOL either way its a win win.

Tool to do it????

Dodge probably has some special tool to do the job, I dont remember exactly how its done but I did it with nothing special...

Dont quote me on this, but it seems like its just the bolts for the bearing caps, then it seems like there was some retainer, and then it seems like I turned the adjusters with just a flat head screwdriver... That adjusts the bearing preload, and the backlash of the gears.

Mmmm love a hot daughter[8D]

Looks like getting the all-terrains is going to be a long way from now though guys. Probably not at least until November-December. I was going to ask for them for my birthday, but I think I'll just ask for money to pay towards the loan or something like that. I was really excited to see that transmission though. Looked really badass. Looked like a tranny you'd speed on spike tv on trucks or something. Was all blue, and it sat right between the collectors of the headers. Truck looks very new underneath though, almost no rust. Exhaust was still looking new as well. The bed is perfect, and everything looks very solid. I'm very excited to get the truck back and just be done with this tranny/lsd phase. It's a big step to making this truck back to new again. Would really like to get a smoother treated tire on this truck though. Just really isn't my style with the big nobby treads, don't have a use for it really. Other than the tires, just want to get a new rear bumper, some fresh headlights, and a bed liner and the appearance of the vehicle will be perfect. Did I tell you guys I love that thing??

haha damn I had it backwards.

I'm impressed, I would have been all over putting that grille in first. Can't wait to see how she meshes with the white paint. I think it will great. Smart thinking of getting the mirrors too. Will make more sense with the black theme, make sure to post pix up for us my man

You should call back and make sure thats the Detroit Tru Trac or True Trac or whatever it is. If it's not no way in hell I'd pay $1000 for it. The Detroit or the Auburn are the only things I'd even consder. If he said it was similar to the Auburn he either didn't know what he was talking about or it's not the Detroit. The Detroit is a totally different design than the Auburn. It's clutchless vs the Auburn that has clutches and will eventually wear out. The Auburn will most likely last a lot longer than your factory one though and I've also heard of a few Detroits blowing up. Both seem to be really solid units though. I'd make sure it's one of those if it's not I'd tell him not to put it in there and order a Aburn or Detroit. Those are the only two worth while. If it's a factory replacement I bet you are going to be doing this again as everyone I've talked to just about with one of these trucks with a LSD has had to replace it. Do a search over on Pavementsucks.com and you will see what I'm talking about. The stock ones are just junk. Like I said if it was my truck the Detroit or the Auburn are the only two I'd even consider letting a shop put in my truck. I have had shops tell me otherwise but I've done my own research not gone by what the guys trying to sell something to me told me and after reading up on them those are what I'd go with.
