what exactly does a higher stall torque converter accomplish in being what it be for?
This why we are figuring this out with the TQ converter , cause im gonna match the cam with it ..

we have a vega drag car that has a 4500 rpm stall , this would not work in the truck since it cuts out at 5500 rpm.. so i have 2 options stock stall or just a slight higher stall ..
So relax and what for pics and the build sheet...

the stall speed acts like a clutch in a manual trans car. Inside the converter are fans. One fan on the input side and one on the drive side. The input fan is spun by the crank and propells the fluid in the trans to spin the other fan, driving the transmission. If your familear with how to drive a manual, think of the stall speed as the rpm where you have completely let off the clutch and engauge the trans to the engine 100%.Well the fans work the same way. The stall speed is where (approximately) the fans are both going to be spinning the same rate. Thats aside from lockup. General rule of thumb for picking the stall speed is 500 rpm below your max torque rpm. Thats for maximum efficiancy at wot. Im not familear with the towing world so I couldnt speek as to the effectiveness of a 1300 stall speed. Sounds like an interesting idea. Get one of those trans coolers with a dedicated fan . Sorry to hear about the trans too. That blows.

I also had the scan tool hook up to see what the trans was doing , when i get on the throttle TQ converter went into lock up , as soon as i left off the throttle unlock , so kinda throw the "when you hit the brake peddle" unlock out the window... TPS controls that ..(BE CARFUL WHEN YOU PLAY WITH THE TPS SETTINGS , OTHER SETTINGS COME INTO PLAY) .
intresting thing here here with the mailbu the TQ converter stall is like 800 rpm , so as soon as its put in gears it wants to jump ..
Even if i get my ram up to 400 hp the stock stall is more then enough to handle it...

800 it will move, but thats not its stall speed?

when putting out more power your converter stalls higher. I am making more power now, my converter now stalls at about 2500-2600 rather than the 2100-2200 before.

well this AM staterd to take the tranny apart ,took about 2 hrs. thinking to find pieces of cluth bands and what not and guess what ???? Nothing broke , the bands had a slight discolor nothing major not broke or crack the trans fluid smelled like burnt toast.. but we cant find nothing no shavings nothing later on today gonna look at the overdrive unit itself and see what is going on there.. So now it looks that i got lucky and gonna save a few $$$ which is a plus... Butttt , looks like the tran been rebuilt in 06 cause there is a marking saying 06 , maybe who ever rebuild it never replace the TQ converter still used the old one , so thats another thing we are looking at is the TQ converter, right now the part list is : TQ converter , shift kit , new seals , and some other things ..
