Hey guys, just thought I'd throw this question out here while it's relevant. Silver, you mentioned you heard a clunking noise coming from your rear differential, and as you suspected, it was your posi unit. Remember when the transmission shop told me my LSD was starting to break up? Is this something I'll most likely hear when it starts to get really bad? I just don't have the money right now to be dropping money on an LSD, so I'd like to wait it out as long as possible. On the other hand, I also don't want to gamble destroying my ring and pinion gears. I guess what I'm saying is it something I'll hear or notice when it begins to really fall apart? Thank You. And based off my knowledge from you guys on gears, aren't 4.56s really the ultimate compromise in the fashion he does a little bit of both (offroad/street)? I notice Silver says he doesn't really offroad with the truck and uses it as a daily driver. Either way, goodluck with your situation!

I think I got lucky that I heard a clicking noise. That loose chuck could have easily just got pulled into the gears and really grenaded things. Or the springs in the posi could have come out too making even more metal.

It thought you were going to have them remove the posy and just put in an open diff for you since the posi was bad?

If your lucky you get some kind of warning before the rear goes , most cases it just goes with no warning at all , before i would jump into gears i would figure out why you got metal pieces to begin with...

Guy wants $50 obo for a usedopen diff. You had some extra money at the time after your tranny cuz you put in that bedliner. Well... your prb runnin real thin on $and honestly, you can always swap out later. What if more chunks come off and float between your ring and pinion? No sense in gambling with that sort of thing. Not only are you out money for new LSD, New Gears, install, then another shop to re-properly install because it doesnt feel right.(last one's a joke... chill) thats major $$$. at least near a grand. Dunno what I said anything.. but yea just saw it and thought of ya. Wish ya luck.

I wouldn't pay that much for that. There was a dude not too long ago maybe a month ago trying to give one away on PS.com and no one needed it.

I will toss my 2 cents in here since I just had to replace my entire rear end last summer. I was driving down the highway and the stupid thing exploded on me. NO warning sounds before or anything. In fact, had the diff fluid changed and they inspected it and said everything looked good and showed me everything. So I am warning anyone who thinks they might have a prob go get it checked out and fixed if it is possible for you. When I say the entire thing I mean everything it wasnt pretty. Even the paint on my tailgate is messed up from where the boiling hot fluid sprayed all over it.
