Default Short Bed v/s Long Bed

I've been thinking about trucks, and how useful they can be. I've grown up around trucks with 8 ft. beds. My dad has an extended cab with an 8ft bed, and my brother has a single cab truck, but it has an 8ft bed. Now obviously long beds usually don't look good as a truck with a shorter bed, but I don't know guys...I think there are some pros and cons of each. Let me start by saying this...in my family, my truck is somewhat the fairytale truck. It has huge tires, it's lifted, and to top it off, it has a 6ft. bed. It sucks because you just really can't fit anything. Everything comes up short. I'm so used to being on my dad's or my brother's truck, EVERYTHING fits...furniture, trash, sheetrock, plywood, studs, lawnmowers, they do what trucks are supposed to do. With my truck, it's almost embarrassing how useless it is when it comes to work lol. To me, I think anybody that doesn't have a longbed is someone that isn't a "true" truck owner. For someone like me, I bought a pickup truck because I wanted a v8, and I wanted something where I could move **** around like 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, and to top it off, I just love trucks lol. But for work, my truck is useless. Studs have to go over the tailgate, plywood and sheetrock require the gate down, it's gay. A lot of guys pick on trucks with longbeds, but even I can admit they are at least a real truck, they actually do what trucks were originally designed for, and that's to work. I think a single cab truck with a longbed it's the ultimate compromise. When you start adding a backseat with a longbed, then it suddenly becomes uncool. It fits my dad well because he's a true hard worker. My brothers truck remains cool because it's a single cab. But at least if your goin to have a shortbed, I think an extended cab is imperative. I have a truck for recreation and enjoyment really, but I also do a lot of work. It just sucks that anytime it's time to do construction, my truck is the joke truck lol, because the home depot run usually requires a gate down, and lots of rope[8D]

Well I bought my truck for purposes of offroading, and the short bed along with the regular cab is great, because of the smaller wheel base (and overall shorter truck). I don't get high centered nearly as much as my friends with long beds, nor do I have trouble making sharp turns. It's too bad they didn't make 2500s with short beds and regular cabs or I'd have bought one. Also being a 1500 and most of the **** I haul for work being heavy, it doesn't really matter that it's a short bed due to the 1500s hauling capacity. Also you can't tow that much with a 1500, and towing is really where the long wheel base comes into play. If I were to find myself doing heavy towing on a regular basis a 3500 quad cab with a long bed would be the way to go. But you could never take the truck in the woods either, which would suck.

So as far as 1500s go the short bed regular cab is the way to go. Any other combination and I'd get a 2500.

I like short beds better look wise and it does mostly what I want to do with them however if it was purely a work truck I'd like a long bed too. Antoher reason I'd like a long bed would be so I could put a tool box in it and still have the bed the same size as a 6ft bed.

Maybe you heard of this new invention they have out, it's called a trailer, you know for those people that actually like the short bed and still manage to "work" with their truck.

Thats what I do although it isn't usually for work. I have a trailer I use when I haul dirtbikes or most stuff really. It's a pita to remove the tonneou however you spell it cover so I just hook up to the trailer usually.

they both serve a purpose depending on your needs imo. they don't start to lose their true "truckness" until they get lowered , 20" rimsw/ low pro tires. etc. i just don't see the point to that, just my opinion

Well yeah a trailer can help, but it's a giant pain in the ***. I'd rather have the tailgate down then be the big circus in town lol. I'm sure for most guys a shortbed is fine, but I've grown up with construction around all the time, and if you don't have an 8ft bed, your just going to get made fun of. My dad and brothers always **** with me. My dad will be like soo ahh Joe, can you go to home depot for me and pick me up some sheetrock, studs, and plywood with your big stupid pile of ****. And then he'll be like oh wait, nevermind, you got the stubby**** bed, so why don't you go with your brother lol. I mean, don't get me wrong I love my truck. It is incredibly powerful, beautiful, and fun, but when it comes to what a truck is made for, it's pretty much a dyke truck

Short bed not a real truck? [:@]

I bought my short or is it reg? Can't remember but anyway I bought it cause I hunt and where I hunt you gotta make tight turns and I want less of a chance to be high centered.

If it's really an issue for you then sell your truck, cut your loss and buy another one!

Or I think there might be a bed extender out there for our trucks, if I see a link I will post it that will give you another foot or a little more.

There you go a solution too your complaints...I mean problems!

I did a search and this was the first thing I clicked on: http://www.slickcar.com/productdetai...ProductID=3976

If I didn't have my canopy I'd probably get one of these.
