Its not the trans itself , its the OD unit ..More times then not they will use your old overdrive unit (not rebuilt) and slap it on , So it does not matter if you spent 800 on a rebuild or thousands on a fancy trans or preach how good this company is vrs the other , we all know the overdrive is the weak link , so why not rebuild it or get a new one like i did when i rebuild my trans...
These trans been around for a long time (3 spd auto) they just slap some electronics , OD on it and called a 518.. which its a 727 torque flite..

The other transmission shop I visited the other day was telling me that these trucks have kind of a half *** overdrive unit in which all the gears run through the overdrive, so that was an interesting piece of advice. I'm going to ask them to reset the shift points and extend them, this should fix the drop off in power I'm getting in 3rd and 4th gear. I'm not really sure what's causing the sensitive pedal deal. It only happens with speeds 35mph and above (3rd and 4th gear). I have *****, I haven't left them alone since March, they just don't listen. This is my last shot to make it right though, it's not leaving the building until I'm absolutely satisified...period.

Good luck, and if by chance you're arrested and convicted of burning down a transmission shop later, was nice knowing yah.

If they continue to bother you and not fix your truck I would take them to court and then after you win and they fix your truck to your satisfaction you could picket outside their business holding a sign saying 4000=poor service @ new england transmission!

Might as well sue them for the $4000 plus "loss of enjoyment of life".

Might make it a million dollar thing.

Called Mark this morning and told him I was swinging in within 5 minutes and that I wanted to have a tech come out for a drive with me, so he said ok. When I got there the tech jumped into the truck, and I explained to him what I wanted him to look for. I told him of the overdrive shift, and of the sensitive pedal issue. I drove it first and showed him the skip into overdrive. As I was driving I hit a couple of bumps and made the truck do the bump thing. After this, I let him drive. It never did the overdrive skip on him because he drove like a grandmother (one of Mark's tricks), but he hit a few bumps and it revved the truck around. The tech was convinced it was a throttle sensor issue, and maybe the pressure needed to be risen. As for the overdrive skip, he says that it's something they can't control and that it's a Chrysler thing doing that. He is saying the lockup is getting a little confused with the computer on the chrysler and that it would need to have a special flash of some kind to eliminate that. So I asked him to look into finding something. I told him the main thing I wanted done was the sensitive pedal dealt with and the shift points, at least in 1 and 2 to be risen and maybe it won't drop in power so quickly. It went pretty smoothly, but I just played a neutral role, this way if they don't fix it, I won't have a problem saying it's not fixed yet. Monday is the day.
