i need a bigger truck
I'm surprised you could control that thing once you got going with that kind of load behind it! I'm impressed your truck has lasted as long as it has with that amount of abuse! That in itself is testament to the strength of these trucks.
It's kind of funny, I just finished saying you were going to blow your truck up in another thread, and then I see this. What is the matter with you? A one ton with dual wheels isn't even rated to tow "28,000 pounds*. Sod pallets weigh about a ton, unless the pallets you are carrying are double the height. I did several sod runs this summer. I had one pallet in the bed, which weighed 1900 pounds, and I had one in the trailer behind me, and it was a BIG LOAD. At least if you were going to be throwing that much stress onto your pickup truck, you would at least need a half ton truck that had the 8 ft. bed with the extended cab. You have the smallest option sized 1500, that thing is meant to go offroading and drive around town, period. Uh, makes me very sad to hear you were putting those massive amounts of weight on a tiny truck. It's already taxed to begin with those 36" tires. jee wiz.

When I gottahaul or tow something really gnarly, I suck it up and foot the fuel bill in this:

Long as you don't have to go fast, they're great. You too can own one for $5-$9k.

It'sin the 2.5 ton weight class. It can carry 5,000 pounds in the bed.
GVWR is 23,000/23,530 w/w, so it comes in just under CDL weight class.
Interestingly, the tires are only D load range. But since there's 10 of 'em, they're plenty stabl;e with a heavy load. A couple pallets of pavestone drops the bed a whopping 1/2"
the sod that i haul is very wet right now, and believe me they weigh more then 1900lbs. I know that these trucks are tuff, and I know I need a F750, but I'm just trying to help put food on the table. I'm not stupid, I didn't go on the interstate, I usually drove around 35mph-45mph, the trailer has good brakes, and I know that I need a longer truck, but I didn't know what I would be towing a year ago. Give me a break guys, I just thought you guys would get a kick out of it.
But believe me a 500hp 440 in a 3/4ton truck will pull this trailer of mine. I have personally seen a guy with a 1 ton and a goosneck trailer haul 14pallets. You do the math

Honestly I smell ****. Being that I'm from Lancaster Pa I know what **** smells like. I think you're greatly over estimating the weight of your load. With allthat weight you'd be lucky to end up with just a broken transfer case or tranny. Not to mention just stopping with a load like that. That trailer would push you clear off the road at a stop. Plus I couldn't imagin a single cop who wouldn't pull you over. Hell they pull us over for blacked out lights and tint. Honestly this whole thing smells like ****.
Yeah man, I really can't see 28,000 pounds. I towed a 8,000 pound excavator and man was she FEELING it! The trailer weighed 3,500 pounds. The engine handeled it great, but the truck was getting pulled around hard. And that was just at 11,500 pounds. That in itself is way too much for a half ton. I am having a hard time beliving sod weighing 24,000 pounds. These must have been massive pallets of sod. I would bet you were pulling 15,000 pounds at the most, because that would be astounding to begin with. Either way, anything over 10,000 pounds is really pushing it, let alone 20,000+ pounds, that'd be a load for any kind of dual wheel.

well for those of you that know me I am always bragging that my truck pulled that 28,000lb trailer and then a week later the tranny went out, well today I was pulling around 25,000lbs, and when I pulled out into the street, the truck redlines 6,000rpm, then I heard some gears crunch, and it caught, I origally thought the rearend because its only got 1200 miles, then I thought the tranny cause its only got like 1800 miles on it, but I'm 99% sure that its the transfer case, yep, these trucks aren't as tuff as I need.
I've been talking to my dad alot and I think he's going to give me his 89 2500 and I'm going to put a 440 with 727 4.10's on stock tires, to do my work in.
