V10 vs. Cummins
Wow, this thread still exists?? I like my V10 when it comes to acceleration and throttle response. It will pull anything a diesel will, but like you said the diesel is slow and steady and will go for longer. I respect diesels more than I did a year ago after driving a 6.7 CTD, it wasn't slow or loud. The V10 era is over and the diesel era is here, I'm just old fashioned, and poor.
Heh, I totally agree with you there...
Wow man, your 'ol girl looks terrible. What did you do, hit a deer with her? Too bad you live so far away from me. We could work out a deal and I'd sell you a whole parts truck to bring yours back around to being a "looker" again.
I'll still take a 5.9L CTD over a 6.7L CTD anyday. Those 6.7's have some serious issues, primarily in the "emissions" and reliability category. Not to mention, they are lousy on fuel economy. As bad as the PowerJokes! Chrysler is just damning themselves, putting those new-on-the-market monsters in their trucks. If they don't get their act together soon, they may lose their Diesel truck market share to Ford or Chevy in the future! From most people's perspectives, it's still a race to see who can build the most reliable, most economical diesel-powered pickup. And, it's still anybody's game. I like Dodge trucks as much as the next guy, but if someone puts a diesel in a pickup that can obtain the remarkable reputation of the infamous Cummins 5.9L, then that's the next truck I'm buying, no matter what manufacturer builds it.
How do you like my 5 page "storybook". I know, a bit over-winded, but hey, now people know some facts. I'm thinkin' I should write a book, and make some money off of all this knowledge I have. Yeah right, in my spare time... LOL!

I rear ended a ford truck on the interstate because of my previously crappy brakes. I decided to leave it alone because I think it gives the truck character. The front is just the tip of the ice berg though. I have posted a few threads about how crappy my truck looks.
Wherever Cummins goes the buyers will go too. Cummins isn't going to stop producing the 5.9 just because Chrysler is using the 6.7 instead. That would be like Jeep not using the 4.0L inline 6 anymore, oh wait they aren't using it anymore. Chrysler is killing two of the most reliable engines ever made........

i think its funny that 98% of the guys on here that are jerking off to the cummins, and talking **** about the v10's have half ton 1500's lol.
i have owned both trucks, i bought the v10 after i wrecked my 98 cummins, and stock for stock both trucks were pretty much even when it comes to towing. i own a landscaping company and tow every day, i regularly tow my skid steer through the hills of CT and can say its no diffrent with the v10 vs the cummins they both pulled it fine, with power to spare.
you guys need to stop compairing modded cummins to stock v10s, thats like compairing a v6 ram to the v8 ram, its not the same. compair stock for stock and its pretty much dead even.
also the v10 responds pretty good to mods and you can easily jump it to 500tq with a few bolt ons.

FACTS are newer diesel's are much quieter, smoother and more efficient than the brotheren of yesterday.... but they still have different strong points than a gas v10....diesels are designed to last like 500,000 miles between rebuild and gas versions usually dont make it to 250,000 (their are exceptions with both) the gas engine is higher reving and has more pickup (hp) and more responsive at higher speed driving....the diesel has much more torque and pulling capability (power).....the resale is always higher on the diesel version simply because they hold up better.
sad that this thread ended up being an example of childish bragging and a pissing match.....theres more bs than fact here...

May be "better" because it's different but as far as capability the V10 kills the cummins. I have driven a 3500 with a cummins and I felt like an old man because the acceleration was soooo bad. They do run great but they are not as practicle as the V10 for doing anything but farm work. And they sound like a laughing horse and stink. I might get my uncle to let me borrow his 3500 and I'll make a video of me smoking it and dragging it. We use my truck to move the boats.........
both motors are great motors, the cummins is tougher than nails, the v-10 is also tough ****
both can tow a house
the v-10s major pitfall is its a pig of fuel, well so is my 318...but i have a heavy foot
