If you need the cross refrence for the bigger filter, they are buired in this thread, but I have them in my Oil Change DIY in my signature.

thats just it though, has anyone actually done any true studies or testing on this subject? i mean, in theory, it should be able to collect and hold more "dirt" but does it really justify buying a bigger filter? to me the normal sized one works just fine and i see no true benefits in buying a bigger one unless an actual test was done to determine just how much more dirt or how much longer the filter would last vs. a conventional one.

That is just common mechanical knowledge. Ask any mechanic or anyone who knows a damn about filters, and they will tell you that a bigger one has the capacity to hold more dirt. It just makes sense. These bigger filters cost the same as a smaller filter, so why not?

It doesen't matter what kind of filter you use if you don't let your oil get old and dirty.

also don't forget it lets you add more oil... more oil means that it is cycled less often and used less often aka should last longer.

i'm sure this is not a significant advantage but whatever

oh one more thing, the bigger surface area should make it easier for your oil pump to do its job

I don't know? I have been using them since 1969 on my 440's and I am going to use one on my 99 Dodge 1500 4x4 that I just picked up. I also race a 440 in Sportsman Class.
