Yes....in my opinion. Unless you want your battery to drain at stoplights and watch your lights fluctuate with the bass hitting...

You don't need a cap in a properly setup system. I've never run one and I've never had a problem with my battery draining unless I play my system for quite a while with the truck off. The only thing they are good for is if you do have the lights dimming and don't want to put a better alternator on. Then they will usually stop that as they store up power from the battery to have for when the bass hits hard. If you install your system and the lights dim with the music I'd maybe add one if you don't want to upgrade the alternator however, I'd for sure try it first. Most guys I know that are serious about car audio don't like them.

+1 on hometheaterman

Good systems dont use capacitor. And they are always used to mask the true problem. Proper battery size, wiring and grounding does amazing things.

i have a yellowtop, a new performance alternator, my wiring is perfectly fine, and I can take my cap out and run it and my lights dont flash, I just like to have the cap because it does seem to make for a more responsive amp in my opinion just because the power is right there stored waiting for the amp to draw from it. and once the power is to the cap it is focused solely on the amp and nothing else, but no, you dont need it, it was just a friendly suggestion.

I have a question about my speaker input tho, as you can see on the 2nd diagram down there is a speaker level input connection. What is the middle black wire with the down arrow for, ground?
