The time difference between going 75 with OD on and 65 with OD offis nowhere near significant enough to risk burning out another tranny. 65 w/ no OD is what the cool guys do when towing. You wanna be cool, dontchya?

Dude, if I get 500 pounds in the bed of my truck, OD is OFF! yea your truck will be running any where between 3000 rpms ~ 4000 rpms. Its a little steep, and your mileage will suck, but that is a hell of a lot better than burning yet another tranny.

er, you turn you od off with 500 lbs in the bed, i cant even feel that much weight in my bed, and i have the 318, and dude, a few sleds on a trailer will not hurt your trans even in od, especially on flat highway

my dad has always always always told me. od only when your empty.. you have any type of load, trailor or whatever, NO OD! my dads pretty wise, ex mechanic, my uncles a mechanic, my other uncles a tranny tech... they all told me the same thing. no OD with a load.
I am a little wary about my tranny. Besides, I have over 140,000 on her now more than twice what it was when I inherited it. If I can make it a another 6-8 months on the setup I have now I will be happy.
And I may not turn it off now since the shocks are replaced.
I know when i pulled the old one off (Stock) they just fell in on themselves.

No offense MaroonMonster, but I agree with Purpl. I don't know about five hundred pounds, but three sleds, you're looking at at least 1200 pounds, right? I doubt he has a transmission temp gauge. Even if he did, I wouldn' strain the O/D with that much weight. These stock transmissions aren't known for their durability at towing in O/D. If you haven't figured that out yet, you will.

i ain't a trans tech, im just not afraid to leave my od on unless im dragging a S*IT load of weight, ive done it before, had 400 lbs of fuel in a tank in the bed, and 3 good sized buckets of damp gravley dirt in the bed and it held 40 in OD like a champ
