I was wondering the same thing. Its very possible he has done what squirrels has done, and doesn't look at Neon's threads anymore.

Has your brother done anything upgrade wise with his transmission, Neon? Is it a manual, or is it an auto?

I'll say it again: its not about hunting for gears, or necessarily about straining up a hill (although that is hard on it), its about using it at all, as it is hard on an automatic transmission to tow a decent load at all in O/D; up a hill, down a hill, sideways on the hill, backwards up a hill, on a level road, backwards on a level road, etc. etc.

I'm glad you took your brother's truck though. You just saved a lot of wear and tear on your tranny but not pulling that load in O/D.

IIRC, the manual states that it is ok to leave OD on when towing backwards!

My brother did a recent upgrade to his transmission last fall. He bought a deep dish pan, a heavy duty cooler, a transgo shiftkit, and mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid.

I would like to see what MonteC would have to say; considering he is an ATRA certified technician. I always take o/d off around town, but it's just the highway use where I was questioning. It may be that it's quite alright to tow at 65mph with o/d off, but I'd like to hear it from somebody who works on transmissions.

It was awesome. There was just so much snow, perhaps too much. Every other minute it seemed like one of us was getting stuck lol. But I just love it all. I love filling the snowmobiles with gasoline, changing the spark plugs, filling them with oil, and hearing them start up in the freezing cold temperatures, it's just a blast. Fortunately we just got hit again here in Maine, so it looks like I'll be able to do some more riding down here in my hometown area which will be fun. It's been a very long winter though, and I think I'm ready to transition so I can start handwashing the truck again.

Thanks for asking!
