Default Odd "whirring" noise on and off repeatedly (behind dash)

Hi all, finally purchased a Ram (another thread about that with pictures coming soon)

For my first question:

There is a motorized whirring noise that comes from I suppose behind the dash area or near the engine. It goes "whirrrrr" for 2 seconds, then silent for 4 seconds. Repeatedly all the time, whether in idle or drive. Only when the engine is started. Doesn't affect the driving or seemingly anything..

(I've searched every thread that had the word "noise", can't seem to find anything!)

Thanks!

I had the same thing happen/happens to me. Is your a.c. on? I usually got the noise when my a.c. was on. It seems like it would be a fan or something back there. I'm just not certain on the problem or the solution, but I do get it too. Not as often as you though it seems.

A/C is off, I'll play with that though a little.

Its a constant on/off. As in the second I start the engine

whirr for 2 seconds / silence for 5 seconds / whirr for 2 seconds / silence for 5 seconds ....

until I shut the engine off.

Thats most likely the blower that turns on whenever A/C is engaged, like detdodge stated. Are any of your vents on at all? If its in defrost mode (blows on the windshield), that will turn on the A/C even if its set to "hot". Gets the moisture out of the system that way.

It should only be on your climate control **** is turned to certain settings. If its like that all the time, even with the **** off, there is something wrong. Either the ****/climate control isn't work properly, or the blower isn't, or something else.

Double checked, I suppose it was hard to tell. Yes it only comes on when its engaged in A/C, so therefore defrost as well. (though oddly the Upper/Lower combined setting also creates the noise.

I'll look into it more, I don't really mind the noise I just don't think it should be constantly kicking on and off like it does...

You may want to do a search on the "Wild Vents" issue and see if that gives you any clues.

Are you sure that ain't the A/C compressor cycling?

Blower motor, A/C compressor, whatever you want to call it. I've always used the two terms interchangeably, I apologize if that is in error.

I can't remember where I read it, maybe in the manual, but the upper/lower combined setting also turns on the A/C. By upper/lower combined, do you mean defrost + legs, or main vents + legs?

Also, please make a signature so we know exactly what model year, trim, 4x4 or 4x2, etc. truck you have.

Yes, oddly the main vents + legs also creates the noise. (which is odd because A/C wouldn't be kicking on..)

Main vents only or Legs only - Does not create the noise.

Again the noise is a looped whirring stop whirring stop whirring stop nonstop.

I'll definitely keep looking into it, updated my stats.
