Default Royal Purple

Hey, this if for those of you with royal purple synthetics knowledge...

I recently did an oil change and used RP...I didn't bother looking at the bottle for a length of life on the oil. I was using penzoil or napa brand before but decided to make the change. I do probably 85% of my mile on the highway, but should I still make the change every 3,000 or can I let it go longer? I know there are many factors, but I was looking for your opinions.

Thanks, TIM

The first two oil changes, Royal Purple recommends going only 3k miles because of it's great wicking ability's. It will clean your engine out better then you'd ever think and you have to take that junk out. Then after that, you can go every 6k miles BUT you still have to change your oil filter every 3k miles.

No matter what I oil I run, i go 5,000 miles. Right now I'm using Valvoline SynPower 10W-30 and a Napa filter (All you should use). I used to use RP but seen no gains over the Valvoline that I'm using now (except a little more in the wallet!).

I do all my maintnance on multiples of 5. Makes everything so much eaiser to figure out. Which reminds me! I'm at 5,200 right now! Need to change this weekend.

There ya go again on the Napa Gold. At risk of going off on a side topic...

I've said it twice or three times, I'll say it again... there is no absolute proof that the batch you get from Napa are going to be Wix filters the next time you get them. Sure, they may look similar, but unless you tear them apart every time and look at the guts, you don't know.

I actually did some research today, Purpl, and just for argument's sake, lets say that you are correct, that Napa Gold are currently Wix filters... why buy a Napa Gold filter for $7 when you can get a Wix filter at O'Reillys for under $6?

To the OP: +2 for J415's advice. Some filters are a bit higher quality and you can go over 3k on them without ill effect, but I wouldn't go much farther.

Haha, I love talking about filters!

I'm pretty sure that the filter division of Napa is owned by Affinia group, which owns WIX filters.

I dont have a O'Reillys within 15 miles of me. But there are 2 Napas and a KOI (That sells WIX) within 5 mins from me. Anyways the Napa filter cost me $6.
