Help!!!Torque converter stuck
If you are rebuilding the trans, you want to replace the t/c anyway..... You won't be able to pull it using the bolt holes, as you will be pulling at an angle. That'll make things worse, not better..... It just slips on there..... try two pry bars, one on each side, and see if you can't get 'er to pop loose that way.
Now my question is, why is my tc stuck in my pump? I can post pictures tomorrow if needed.
pump impeller probably broke and jammed itself on the snout of the tc when you put it back together dont buy one from an auto parts store have one built at a tranny shop. i have had my fair share of tc probs with these trucks. you can get a good stock tc built for around 175 around 200 if you want one to handle more power and big tires. Also dont try to reuse your tranny without getting it built because the trash from that pump is more than likely all through out that trans.
I have always wanted to cut a tc to look inside.....
Check Precision of New Hampton http://gopnh.com/ They make good converters that are highly recommended.

I talked to a transmission shop today about the tc being stuck in the pump. He told me that whoever put the tc in the transmission on the last rebuild did it wrong most likely, which caused the tc to pull out and ruin the pump bushing. Does that sound about right?
I'll give her a try...its going to take A LOT of force to get that thing outta there.
Well I took the pump apart and realized I couldn't get the rest of the tc out without sawing it, so thats what I did. Check out how the tc and pump bushing melted together! They would not come apart, and I put a lot of pressure on them. What in the world could cause this? Not lubricated properly during installation?
