So a single will work better than duals?
You could do what i did and just mount it to the toolbox. it works fine to me. I have the gull wing style doors so i put it on the back of the box, but if its a single door i advise putting it closest to the cab as possible b.c it is sometimes annoying to put stuff in the toobox around it. i currently have an offbrand fiberglass 4'. i plan on upgrading to to 4' fiberglass firesticks, or two 6 ft stainless whips.

i run my twins, and i have reached 24 miles... my uniden is basicly the same as a cobra 29NW, just older "offbrand", at the time the radio was new, was the best compitition for any other radio, and i have sense had it tuned... but i jsut made sure i ran the coax the right way, left it like it came from factory and set my firesticks on the outside of my box with the middle of the stick above my cab, had the sticks swr tuned to the radio, and now it reachs just fine...

i live on a radio path hater base ( MCAS CHERRY POINT HAS 4 JAMMERS ON IT) and no one even gets cell phone service if your inside. but the cbs dont work on them, unless your right next to the person, but me and my buddy with his Cobra with kicker can talk across the base fine.... my bussy runin his stock cobra 29NW ( we almost all have these radios) and twin 10' steel whips cant even talk to me until he gets off base... thats where the twin anttenas lack... steel whips are good single, and firesticks i have been told work better when in duals... and thats from a 64 year old man who has worked on cbs sense he was like 20 and still does it every day ( hes the one who tuned all my stuff)

That's probably something you shouldn't advertise on the internet.

also i hung the mic from the overhead cousoul by means of a gearkeeper

my dad's 29 Black Chrome reaches nearly 10 miles (we can't use it now, my sister laid his truck on the driver's side after plowing a tree on saturday)
Yeah I don't exactly know what the deal with mine was. I halfway wonder if I got a lemon or something. Almost everyone I talked to with one recommended it. I got one and it just wasn't for me I guess. I asked online about the deal with everyone sounding muffled. You could hear them but they sounded muffled and hard to understand unless you really listened hard. I would reach a mile or two sometimes more but often it seemed to get hard to hear after that. but that wasn't that great imo when a walkie talking will reach a mile or so.

When I asked online about the speaker issue I had many of the same guys that had recommended it tell me they ran a external speaker and agreed the internal one sucked. I ended up just selling it and never looked back.

I'm still to this day not sure if I got a lemon or if they are all like that. I don't really want to find out though. I said I'd probably not buy another Cobra. However, I got a walkie talkie from them one year for Christmas and I loved that thing. It was amazing. Just turned my opinion or Cobra completely around. It was super clear and just sounded amazing. Had a great distance for a handheld. All in all it just was an amazing radio until I dropped it in a creek while using it hunting. I wish I still had it. Just a awesome radio. So that really made me wonder if my 29 I had was halfway a lemon or something.

Hometheater - I saw you post that shortly after I won it on eBay in some other thread lol. But like you, I've seen countless people say that they love them, so I'll just hope for the best. Should be here pretty soon, then I just gotta buy some antennas and get it hooked up.

I am thinking about just buying a hood mount & a 3 or 4' wilson and putting it on the opp. side of my reg. antenna. Don't think that will look too bad and should perform ok I suppose. I also thought about doing duals on the toolbox or bed rails, but I don't really want to run all that coax cable. I ran some reverse lights wiring from underneath to the firewall, and a few weeks later it shorted out somewhere..I still never got to look at it, but I'm wondering if it caught something underneath.

Yeah man honestly I wouldn't worry too much about my opinion as like I said I've heard countless and countless numbers of people who have Cobra 29's and love them. That's what really makes me wonder if mine had a bad speaker put in or if the speakers really do just suck in them. You will have let us know how you like yours.

Yeah when I get mine wired up I'll let you guys know. Thanks for the help everyone.

And if they do in fact suck, I only paid $65 + shipping for it..It's only been used for a few months - looks brand new..bet I could make money off of it lol
