I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4X4 with the 5.9, my tranny went out so i pulled it out and had it rebuilt, i got it put back in and everything hooked up now it wont start, it turns over but it wont start, also i cant hear the fuel pump running when i turn the key. also if it helps any the odometer says "no bus"! Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction? thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

 

You may have pinched the crank sensor wire in between the bellhousing and the engine block. Buy a new sensor and cut off the one end of the old sensor and install a new sensor.

 

+1.... And swap the ASD relay with another same looking one. Reset the pcm after also. (disconnect neg. bat. cable while doing the work)

 

The crank sensor is on the passenger side correct? how do i reset the "PCM", sorry kinda new to the dodge scene lol

 

reset pcm by disconnecting neg battery cable and turning on headlights for 30 sec. the headlights drain the capacitors in the pcm.

when you turn the key on, you should only hear the fuel pump whine for a few seconds.

damaging the crank position sensor is common when replacing trans. passenger side, back side of block, in the bell housing. very hard to get to.

 

Doesn't the odometer reading "no bus" mean that it can't or isn't getting info from the computer?

 

yes/no/maybe, sort of. i missed the no bus at the end of his post.

i once had a no bus because i forgot to reattach a wad of of ground wires on the PS bracket.

its likely his crank position sensor is shorted to ground....

so it turns out that the wire is caught inbetween the bellhousing and the engine! my question now is how do i get it out?? can i just loosen up the mounting bolts and pry it a lil or do i have to pull the tranny out agian? Thanks to everyone for their advice.

 

Yes, just loosen the bell housing bolts, pry it apart until it comes out.

 

Replace the sensor. the wires will be cut and you'll have to replace anyway.
