Look more carefully, mine had a wire under the carpet on the drivers side that went to the seatbelt. I simply unplugged it and no more light. Oh and yakkier on the 99's they put the seatbelt in the seat so you can't tell from behind whether the belt is on or off, at least on the extended cabs. So that wouldn't help get you out of a ticket.

Welp it turned off today. With all the snow fall and low temps I think the wire harness under my seat may have gotten wet or so. The dealer wanted $84 just to look at it! No thanks. I did unplug it dry it out. then used some electric contact cleaner and di elec grease when reinstalling so we'll see how this holds up.

Ok dug through a bunch of pages to find this thread I knew I had seen it. I have the same issue. I just tried unpluging the wires that run out of the seat and connect under it. Im pretty damn sure they were the right wires I could hear a clicking sound where the belt rolls up in the seat everytime I unpluged and repluged the white quick connect. However the light still comes on, could it be that those werent the correct wires or is there a different issue with the light being on?

Reviving an old thread here but has anyone solved this mystery related to the mysterious seat belt light? I am in need of some guidance.

On page 80-28 of the 01 service manual, is the diag procedure for the seat belt light. Basically, it's just a normally closed switch in the buckle half of the drivers seat belt. Buckling your seat belt opens the switch, and turns off the light.

Mine doesn't work, so I don't have to worry about it.
