1996 ram 1500(new trans) Manufactured 8-95
VIN 1B7HF16Y5TS512866
sticker under hood is unreadable??

1997 ram 1500(truck with bad trans)
Vin 1B7HF16Y3VS128104
The sticker under hood says codes: DGB standard duty 4spd auto
DGT 4spd Auto Trans CHR
DHA CC Torque Converter

If this trans wont work, I still need to know exactly what model it is to order parts or find a remanufactured one. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks guys!!
Call Dodge dealer on Monday give the parts guy both Vin numbers and he can print off build sheets for both trucks.
At very least he can tell you what transmission is in each one.
My truck was built Oct 31-95 and has 46re in it according to build sheet.

Just so you guys know, it's not 96.5, just 96. Both of my 96s were built in January, and they both have 46REs. Either way, I don't think it will work between different years and I don't think it's worth trying to find out.

Also Rams with the cummins have 47REs not 46REs.

1994-1995:
V6 2WD = 42RH
V6 4WD = 46RH (I have not verified this.)
V8 = 46RH
V10 or Cummins = 47RH

1996-2001:
V6 2WD = 42RE
V6 4WD = 46RE (I have not verified this.)
V8 = 46RE
V10 or Cummins = 47RE

Those apply to both 1500s and 2500s.

Plus, as others mentioned, there are electrical differences from year to year. Not sure what years are compatible with each other.

I ran into this problem a few months ago when i replaced the transmission in my 97 4x4. When i started looking around i was told numerous times that only a 97 model transmission would work in a 97 model truck (i was told this by all of my local transmission shops and junkyards). I was told that there was differences in the internal electronics between 97 and later year transmission. i luckily found a rebuilt 97 model transmission for mine , but it is something to consider.
