That doesnt sound like a transmission issue. Sounds more like an engine problem to me.

this is good news, my center support is shot, but tailshaft is good, my 95 truck is a 318, the 46re is out of a 2000 360, both 4x4, someone told me to just knock the weight off the converter, will this work or will i have to get it balanced? which valve body correction kit would you recommend, this is my first automatic rebuild/repair thanks for the help

Sonnax sure cure. When you swap parts out just make sure you compare them very closely.

As far as the converter i cannont verify that. My book has quite a few different converters for different model years and engine sizes and how they are balanced. Ive never had to swap converters around because i put new ones in with every rebuild.

I was wondering how to get a 3 disc direct drum to accept 4 disc's (frictions)? Is it just a matter of getting a thinner top pressure plate to make up the difference? Or would I need a to get a new drum that is made to accept 4 discs (frictions).

That's it? Sounds good. I guess I'll just take the pressure plate that I have to the machine shop and have a little taken off. I hope It's not too expensive. Thanks again. I know at times I might come across as someone who asks dump questions, but this is my first go round at rebuilding a trans so bear with me.

Default 44re

my truck is a 99 Dakota 4x4 5.2L w/ 44re trans. and when its cold outside and the truck has been off overnight/ throughout the work day my truck will not shift to third gear, 1-2 shift is solid but it will rev up to about 3k rpm then pull out of gear into a false neutral. Any Idea what this could be???
Thanks,

MonteC, I have heard that when you cant feel the shifts in the tranny (very smooth shifting) that its a bad sign and the clutches are wearing out. Is this true?

I just did a tranny fluid/filter change, and my shifts are damn near perfect (rebuilt 23K ago) i can hardly feel the shifts.

Hey MonteC, I am new year, i just purchased a 2001 1500 with 60,000 miles, 318, and 46re. An issue has started with my transmission when I am in the higher RPM in 2nd. If i keep it below 4000 between shifts it is not an issue but as soon as it hits 4000 rpm, only in second, it is like it hits neutral, RPM flies up then as soon as I let off the pedal it shifts fine into third and I am good to go. Any ideas what this would be? Thanks in advance.
