Might be a bit of a pain but I think it should remain all one thread and just delete any bickering, OT comments or repeat questions. By cutting each week loose down the board MonteC may get pummeled with the same question over and over.

Agreed.

Now to my question, i know a little bit about trans but im just curious as to what might be causing this.

Every now and then when i go from park to drive it will hammer shift into drive, almost jerk the **** out of you but it doesnt always do it and most of the time it does it im on an unlevel incline with the front of the truck pointing down the slope.

I know all trans do it to a certain extent but it shouldnt give you whiplash.

Iv changed the fluid and filter also, but im going to be changing the filter again soon because when i changed it the time awhile back it was full of sludge and i doubt the PO ever changed it regularly so im going to change it again and see if it just had so much crap in the torque converter that it just filled the filter up again.

Im also thinking it might have something to do with my spiking RPM's when i first start the truck, when i turn the truck on it will hit around a grand and stay there untill i put it into drive then once it levels out it will sit at around 700 rpms and hold steady.

Sorry for the book but i just want to cover all the bases and let you know what i'v already done

Default 1999 dodge cummins 2500 tranny problem

Dear Sir,

I have a 1999 dodge turbo diesel with 140000 miles been a great truck no problems until about a month ago I got a chk engine light on pulled the codes and got a crankshaft position sensor circuit A out of value. I did not have time or a place to change it as I was moving. Sometimes the light would not come on when I started the truck and have not had any problems with the truck. About a week ago the truck would not shift to over drive unless I let off the fuel pedal that was Monday. I noticed the transmission would shift when the engine got warm, by Friday it will shift the first two gears and nothing else. I changed the filter and fluid but no help. Question can the crankshaft position sensor cause this problem? Is this in limp mode? What else could it be? Any help would be helpful this is the only vehicle we have and my wife commutes fifthteen miles each way and bus is a long trip.

Thank you

Any Idea what this could be???

either the 1-2 band is not adjusted properly or the direct clutches are going south. I would start with changing fluid filter and doing a band adjustment.

I just did a tranny fluid/filter change, and my shifts are damn near perfect (rebuilt 23K ago) i can hardly feel the shifts.
Shift feel is sorta subjective. Personally i feel the trans is working its best when i can feel a nice firm shift. My personal opinion and what ive seen is that soft shifts do put extra strain on the clutches. But wont cause a unit to fail.
