Hey, Posted this on page 57 but I guess I got overlooked or something. No big deal, I could just really use some advice.

New member here with an issue with my new to me Dodge and hoping you can help. 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 with the 47RH. Shifts were delayed when I got the truck and I was going to adjust the bands but I guess something broke first. Driving today I was accelerating gently and when the shift to second came there was a slip, little squeal, a clunk and then no second. Reverse works fine, if I put it in the lockout for first it drives forward just fine, but if the gear selector is in second or drive I get only very slight forward power, not even enough to turn the tires one revolution.

I dropped the pan and adjusted the bands for the hell of it. The fluid was black and like sludge, some metal shavings but not major, and there were some thin, wide bits of some material that had a texture similar to really heavy felt. I cleaned stuff out, adjusted the bands, and put in clean fluid and a filter and to no surprise that fixed nothing, haha.

I figure I'm just going to need to bring the trans in for a rebuild; but I wanted to try and get an idea of what broke, or if there is the off chance I can fix it myself.

Thanks for any input!
Thanks again for any help!

Yes you need to drop the valvebody to replace those solenoids. You have to unhook the external linkage and unplug the case connector, remove the large vb bolts and pull it down.

Thanks,

Check out DieselManor.com They have good stuff over there. I bought the EV2 isspro gauges from them and love them. I think they might have a tranny filter also.

Insert the temp sensor in the cooler feed line (front line), diesel manor has a kit to do this.

No, you just have to drop the valvebody down. Try to adjust the 2nd gear band. If the adjuster screw keeps turning in then the strut has fallen out.

I know this because the front and rear clutch packs were red, while the other two clutch packs were green. Is it normal to have that much debris? the filter was basically covered with green fuzzy stuff, and the magnet had a fair amount of metal dust on it. Any idea what the problem could be?

edit: after looking around on the internet, could this be due to having too high of pressure in the governer test port? why would this be?
Who rebuilt the transmission and do you still have a warranty? Maybe, but i dont think governor pressue is the issue if the trans is shifting ok.

When I have the truck running in park, there is a subtle rattling noise that is coming out of either the flexplate/TC area or the tranny pan itself. If i put it in gear, it disappears and if I rev the motor the noise doesn't get any worse. shifting is fine, OD works good, but this noise concerns me. I can even feel it in the shifter ever so slightly. The noise is not very noticeable on the outside of the truck unless you lean down and really listen for it. to be honest, it's more noticeable in the cab (maybe just b/c its quieter in there without exhaust and engine running IDK)

the noise isn't real loud, almost like a cup holder or ash tray that rattles on rough roads you know? definitely coming out of the middle of the truck under it, not the engine compartment.

Any ideas for me to check? can't take it to the shop that did the rebuild, unless all Aamco's cover warranties from other aamco shops. any thoughts on this?
All Aamcos and Cottman transmissions have nation wide warranties and warranty work from other shops. Cottman and Aamco are owned by the same people.

But as far as the warranty transfer to a new owner i dont know.

The noise could be something simple between the engine and transmission. i would pull the dust cover and lay under the truck with it running and listen to the noise.

Now after a few miles have been put on it (around 3k) it seems while im cruising down the road and i press on the gas a little bit, it will downshift into 2nd gear at any speed. I have rebuilt a few transmissions and this is the first time this has happened. any ideas of what it could possibly be? your help would be greatly appreciated. if you need any other information just let me know so i can gather it tonight as that i am at work right now.

Sounds like a problem with throttle pressure or an issue with the VB that a sonnax sure cure should take care of.

Also the trans is very hesitant to upshift from 2nd to 3rd. But will with some persuasion(Manually shifting the gears) All these problems i started noticing today. The the whole system was flushed and new filter and fluid were put in, before i bought the truck. The truck only has 6000 miles on it since the tranny flush. I checked the fluid and its still bright red with no burned smell. My question is could this be just a band problem....and maybe they just need adjusted? I dont have the extra money for a rebuilt... Any insight into this would be very helpful.

What kind of noise is it? Might want to see about diagnosing the governor pressure solenoids.

Sounds like the 2nd gear band took a dump.
