You have the incorrect governor transducer installed on your trans. Install the correct one and the problem should go away.

Mine hangs around 160º-170º when hot at idle with just a stacked plate style cooler like a b&m.

So was my guy right when he said that the stock coolers have a coating on the inside that breaks up over time and clogs up the works in the transmission? That is why he bypassed it all together and used just this cooler.
No they dont have a coating in them. Trash from the transmission clogs the small passages up. The passages inside the rad cooler are very small, like arteries in your body, they can clog up.

So he was on the right track in his description anyway then.
Have you ever bypassed the radiator cooler and run a stand alone cooler like mine is set up?

I put a temp gauge on mine yesterday, today it was running between 110-130F driving around town. Air temp is about 50F. The hottest it got was about 150F going uphill at about 30MPH, at 55MPH on flat ground it got down to 100F. Is this to cool? My gauge is on the cooler feed line at the end of the metal line under the hood. The radiator cooler is disconnected and the aux cooler appears to be factory.

Yes. Do a search on governor pressure sensor, governor pressure solenoid. That should show you how to change them.

The governor pressure sensor or transducer needs to be matched to the computer. The transducer not only senses governor pressure but has a temp sensor also. The different sensors are not compatible to different computers.

A 96-99 should have the round metal sensor, 00/01 should have the black plastic sensor.

Wow thats cold. I would get a temperature gun and verify what your gauge is reading. If you are infact running that cold on the hot side, i would clean out or replace the radiator and run the cooler lines back through the rad to warm that fluid up.

Some will. As long as you are under 230 you are good.
